She is briefly seen, before you awake…  It was all a dream, again.                                                     Time passes by... days, weeks, months, springs, summers, autumns, winters… and hope isn’t lost, the hope of reunion, togetherness, for one last time. That’s why you are searching, uncovering every corner of the world, seeking among the people on the street, on the subway at rush hour… but all is in vain, the sound of her laughter is nowhere to be found. Sometimes, when you lay still, you can hear it for a moment… again you wake up.

Trying to figure out

Sixteenth work of my NEO BRUTALISM series.

I transform symbols into isolated forms in space. Form gains prominence over meaning. Contrast between straight and curved lines is emphasized over the final overall image, without the outlines of the buildings appearing in their entirety. The play of light and shadow and chiaroscuro tonalities enhance the volumetric or formal qualities over the utilitarian ones. The serial composition, the mechanical rhythm, as well as the unexpected points of view create a sense of alienation, perhaps even a kind of oniric distortion, at the tipping point between dream and nightmare.

I move away from the landscape. I strip away the context and isolate architecture from its historical and geographical framework, thus eliminating the narrative that justifies and explains it. The historic reading of constructions disappears, all that’s left is its contemporary degradation. Any associated ideologies vanish. What remains is the confirmation that the programmes of integrity and hopeful honesty that sparked them have become rubble. Spectres of a past which contained ideals for the future.

Still, I accentuate the buildings bold shapes above the silhouette of this person who walks by, just like a ghost. 
He embodies the spectres from the past, the ideals for a better future and the revolutionary ideologies that generated them... he vanishes... he goes out of the picture... Only the ruins remain

The juxtaposition of the ebony against the ivory curvature sparks an untold narrative, a tale of the interplay between light and shadow, presence and absence. Within this monochromatic theatre of shapes, the enigmatic tableau incites contemplation, inviting to explore the enigmatic dialogue between the boundless expanse and the recline, a silent discourse that resonates within the depths of imagination.
