The sun peeks through a small break in the clouds and illuminates a patch of grass beyond the lake. A glimmer of hope for the soon to arrive summer and warmth that will come to the Westfjords. My favorite photo from Iceland, Majestic Valley was captured on a whim. Focused on the plans for the day and while driving along the infamous Route 1 to the next destination, this scene appeared through the windshield of the van. I immediately pulled off the road and set up my gear as quickly as possible. The clouds were changing rapidly and I managed to snap this shot just in time before the small reveal of the sun was gone, swallowed up by the ominous clouds above. 

Part of the three-piece genesis series “Of Ships and Clouds”, this 1/1 piece by Trent North is an original infrared photo captured in the 590 nm wavelength spectrum and finished in a false-color scheme. Final Voyage is part of a larger body of work themed: “Alternate Chromaticity” which depicts various ethereal scenes from around the world captured in infrared and finished in false-color. Included in the sale for the first collector is a 16 x 24 inch (40.64 x 60.96 cm) high gloss aluminum print.

Majestic Valley

A visual representation of my passion for life and art, this 1/1 artwork was born by the (your)self open collaboration project by artist Rik Oostenbroek. The earth constrains our physical bodies, but our thoughts and spirit transcend those bounds.

Fire Inside

An abandoned building in the former Packard Automotive Plant in Detroit Michigan, USA. On the horizon in the distance, the modern towers of the General Motors Corporation Headquarters are visible, a testimony to the winner in the battle for American luxury car manufacturing dominance.

Battle Lost

An abandoned passenger terminal on the banks of the Dniester River in Bender, Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic (aka: Transnistria). This Soviet era river and sea cruise station was once a hallmark feature of the city. It now stands idle and in disrepair, a statement of another time in an unrecognized breakaway state within Moldova.

Controlled Desolation

An abandoned patient room in Pripyat Hospital No.126, Chernobyl Exclusion Zone, Ukraine. The mostly intact windows shed light on a scene symbolic of the untimely fate of so many first responder victims. This room, like the rest of the city, was hastily left in the immediate aftermath of the worst nuclear energy accident in history.

Insomnia

A California road trip to visit family... My youth was filled with countless hours in the Mojave desert including times among the Joshua trees. This was a crisp winter morning when I enjoyed coffee among the trees as an adult.

Mojave Sentinels

A former whaling ship beached on the shore, near Patreksfjörður, Westfjords, Iceland. Repurposed from whaling to fishing, this Titanic-era ship supplied fisheries for over half a century. Only a fragment of glass remains in what once were the windows of the bridge.

Windows Forgotten

Depending on the season and the weather, the sun can be a constant companion in Iceland. This scene was captured at night in late spring 2019. Although not directly visible, the sun displays it's spleandor despite the momentary shroud of clouds.

Typed

Standing at 150 meters tall and under construction at the time of the disaster, the concrete cooling tower of the Chernobyl Reactor Number 5 was never finished. It stands today serving no useful purpose except perhaps to serve as a stark reminder that the best-laid plans can go astray. A mural painted onto the interior concrete works by Australian street artist Guido van Helten depicts a doctor in the immediate aftermath of the accident and is based on a photograph taken by the late photojournalist Igor Kostin.

Cooling Tower

In 1986 the worst nuclear accident in human history occurred at the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant in Ukraine. These images were captured in 2017 with the goal of giving the spectator a small glimpse and feel of the cost of human technology gone awry.

The Hotel Polissya has become a modern gaming cultural icon and has also been featured in streaming cinema as a key locale for the power plant disaster recovery coordination. Once the lodging place for visiting dignitaries, the now abandoned and overgrown structure hosts the wind through broken windows and empty rooms. Trees have found a home on the roof and in some of the rooms which will only accelerate the deterioration of this once famous and important building within the abandoned city of Pripyat Ukraine.
