He stood there. A mixture of discomfort and sadness.  
He was talking on his phone a minute ago but now is just standing there looking into the distance.  
I saw a group of young people drinking beer and having some sort of impromptu barbecue.  
I saw a small family sitting there with their kid. 
Between his breath he said something like "saudade".

The Softest Words Ever Spoken

When I was a kid I didn't like to go to my grandparents countryside house. Until today there's no cel reception and at that time I wanted to stay in the city with my friends. Probably stopped going when I was 15 or so.
A decade later I went back there. Things had changed.
My grandfather wasn't around anymore. He used to take such good care of the place, planting flowers around the garage pathway, cutting the bamboo so it didn't overgrow.
Without him the place seemed abandoned. I immediately felt that nostalgia hit.
The sugar cane that he would cut so we could chew or drink. The barbecues near the little river on an improvised grill with bricks. 
Ten years later I felt liberated to go there and be out of the network, away from the city, without reception but connecting with that place again.
On the day I took this photo, I went to a store in the city to buy some rain boots (I think) and from the inside I saw this man and he reminded me of my grandfather.

You Can Have My Love

Minted in concrete is the day the house was completed - March 23, 1982.  
I decided to start my long-form collection (The Spr4wl) with this photo to celebrate 40 years of this signature on the floor.

I had never realized that the day was there, set in concrete. When I noticed it, the idea of my grandparents doing this little thing when they finished their house in the countryside of Minas Gerais overwhelmed me. Since that day they were there, weeding the grass, tending the garden, cutting the bamboo. Taking care of the house.  
Now they are gone, but the day they reached that achievement will always be there, carved in concrete.  
And now minted on the blockchain.

The Spr4wl is an experiment. Think of a big box full of albums in which you put and organize your photos throughout the years. This is kind of the feeling here. A collection of memories and places.

The Spr4wl is also a story. I thought about using the smart contract as a long form narrative of my own journey with different albums (collections) and different seasons representing my artistic expansion and life documentation. And in that sense, it's also a documentary of my artistic development in this space over the years.

Each season I'll mint some work, some seasons might be longer than others. Some may be chaotic, others not so much - as I am many times in my life. Maybe different styles, themes and subjects will occur, as it often does. But the sum of it all builds to only one narrative, my own.
