Mio is a portrait all about strong women and beautiful flowers by the artist, Leah Sams.

Mio is inspired by the sakura (cherry blossom) season in Japan - a period of fleeting beauty between March and April each year, and is one of three pieces Leah is releasing to celebrate the launch of her artwork on Foundation.

Each of Leah's bold illustrations celebrate the vibrancy of colour, culture, travel and diversity through beautiful, powerful women.

This baby King penguin is slowly losing its baby down feathers, and starting to get its adult white feathers. This transitional period from baby to adult leads to some funny looking penguins with tufts of brown amongst the sleek black and white.

The Antarctic Treaty was signed into effect December 1, 1959 to become the only continent with no territorial sovereignty. This was to ensure that all who came, came with peaceful purposes only, so no nuclear waste or production to be established here. This agreement also promotes international scientific cooperation in Antarctica and helps preserve the fragile balance of life.

One thing I am always guilty of is beating myself up because I'm not *exactly* where I want to be. 
						
I tend to forget that I am not a tree. I don't have to stay exactly where I am--I can adjust and change things as I want them to become.

My biggest hurdle is that I've been afraid of the process. I hold myself back and get in my own way when I think about my dreams and goals.
						
If you can relate, let me just drop the same truth bombs right here that I've been preaching to myself. No dream or goal is too big for you. 
Nothing is "out of your league." 
You'll never be perfect, and it's okay to be a hot a** mess. 

Working towards your goals doesn't have to be pretty--all you need is the belief in yourself that you were crafted to do amazing, world-changing things.

You can do hard things. In fact, you can ROCK THEM.

This piece comes from the awakening of an artist’s soul. It holds more meaning than my other works as it is the first time I created an image entirely out of my head. 

I have explored this world many times, camera in hand, searching for external inspiration. But for many years, I forgot to look inside myself . Wandering Wildling is a piece that reflects the abyss of imagination inside of me, and my first steps towards the light it holds.

In the shadows of trauma, we learn to shield our hearts,
To bear the weight of the world, alone and apart.

Born from the absence of a parent's embrace,
Or the relentless labor that left no trace.

From love that offered pleasure but not sanctuary,
To friendships and kin who took more than they carried.

In moments of promise, they left you to mend,
Your burdens doubled as they failed to attend.

Through lies and betrayals, trust became frail,
A fortress you built to keep your heart safe and veiled.

Extreme independence – a guard against pain,
Rooted in generations of hurt and disdain.

To trust is to hope, to trust is to expose,
"Never again," you swear, as the walls around you rose.

Yet behind the fortress, your heart remains scarred,
Longing for love, but forever on guard.

Battles and armor are for those who fear strife,
Yet in self-protection, you've locked away life.

Trauma, when recognized, can begin to mend,
For you are worthy of love, support, and true friends.

You are deserving of partnership, trust, and care,
Of a heart that is held, and a love that is rare.

You need not prove, earn, or beg to receive,
For your worthiness shines, in the simple act of being.

Weakened by hunger, I marvel at the desert flower's resilience in the harsh environment. Its roots seek sustenance in the parched earth, symbolizing hope and life's ability to thrive amidst adversity.

As an experienced world traveler and lens-based artist, Rachel quit her office job in 2018, picked up a camera, and let her curiosity, love of exploration, and drive for self-expression lead the way.

Desert Flower

I dance to a tune that only I can hear, the forward flow of my steps revealing my deepest desires, and my steps backwards showing my vulnerabilities.

The weight of society's expectations can drown out the raw, untamed melody of an imperfect soul. But in the harsh, mystical landscape of Iceland, I have found a song older than time.

Along the jagged coastlines, I find myself chuckling at the mordant song of the winds. The relentless waves crash against the rocks with a thunderous cacophony, but I find peace in this dissonance.

For in this place, I am challenged to be as wild as the song which calls to me. As the waves move the sea foam up and down the beach, my mind wanders through the cracks and patterns it leaves behind.

Venture into this domain, and you will discover that every irrational criticism can be countered with the balm of empathy. That the most formidable naysayers are no match for the armor of authentic connection.

In the world of Black Rhapsody, the tides of self-doubt are but the stripes of paper tigers. Our greatest strength lies in embracing both our passions and imperfections.
