The seventh piece in the Curvescape series. It introduces architecture to the once barren landscapes. As we know nothing of the nature of these structures, the scale of these landscapes is still unclear. As with earlier pieces in the series, Curvescape VII matches the aesthetic of an unruly pencil with the precision of a computer.

Archetype explores the use of repetition as a counterweight to unruly, random structures. As each single component look chaotic alone, the repetition brings along a sense of intentionality, ultimately resulting in a complex, yet satisfying expression.

EXPANSE divides the plane into a grid and extrudes each cell of the grid into cuboids of various dimensions.

Each face on each cuboid is colored based on its slant, relative to a light source. Laws of illumination turns this geometrical relation into a numerical value which is subsequently mapped to a location in a custom color space, giving each face its color.

With the shapes and colors so tightly linked, by using repetitious rules when deciding upon dimensions and slants, chromatic patterns and tendencies emerge as well.

The Iteration series attempts to give nuance to the juxtaposition of structure and disarray. It creates an impression of structure by generating a random layout of blocks and repeating it in two directions. By making the process of repetition imperfect, with a small chance of mutating the initial layout, a feeling of chaos is reintroduced.

‘Change of Basis’ picks up the thread from Kjetil’s earlier partitioning algorithms and extends them into the third dimension. Repeat a structural pattern in two dimensions, then create a diagonal cross-section in the third dimension, and you are left with something like an evolving pattern-gradient. By cross-sectioning cubes in specific ways, the simple initial patterns come alive, creating cathedral-like structures and a sense of massive scale. While highly geometric and rule-based, the expression of the pieces are softened up by bright colors and playful linework. Inspiration is taken from Moebius’ Sci-fi illustrations as well as Pushwagner’s striking perspective.

The rules for Crosshatch Automata can be represented as four numbers between 0 and 255, meaning that the total number of different configurations is roughly 4.3 billion. Both the left and the upper edge of the image has a simple repetetive pattern, and the generation of each new cell is always consistently based on its left and upper neighbour. Nevertheless, the pattern seemingly dissolves into chaos just a couple of iterations into the image.

This project explores the visual expression of various planar symmetries by using colourful, maze-like structures. The precision of these mathematical patterns are offset by a playful use of dimensionality and an imperfect grid as basis for the linework.

In *Monument*, Golid’s signature grammar of cubic shapes, black lines and luminous colour is instantly recognisable. In this series, geometric forms take on a new verticality. Inspired by the aesthetic of Brutalism, shapes ascend like totems of concrete architecture. “Flawed, repetitive patterns have always been an interesting aesthetic to me, and where else does one find it more prominently than along the vertical facades of high-rise buildings?” asks Golid. The artist is interested in the pattern and structure of these buildings and the way in which these patterns are disrupted by the presence of people. For example, the way in which an open window or a closed curtain interrupts the architectural uniformity of a modernist high-rise building.

Methodical preparation meets unpredictable circumstances. “Decision Matrix” is an arrangement of cogwheels and stacks of chips, where each piece uniquely represents one of the 377 races attended by Oracle Red Bull Racing, commemorating its 20th anniversary this year. The cogwheels symbolize the meticulous engineering, strategic planning, and technical precision that form the backbone of the sport. In contrast, the stacks of chips highlight the theme of unpredictability, representing random factors such as weather changes, unforeseen technical issues, and the critical split-second decisions made by drivers that can significantly impact the race’s outcome. Each piece in the series invites collectors to connect with specific historical moments of triumph and challenge, celebrating two decades of racing excellence.

"Risk / Reward" is a series that reflects on the high stakes and complex dynamics of Formula 1, where the balance between calculated risk and potential reward defines the thin line between victory and defeat. Through an arrangement of chip stacks, each with random colors and patterns, the series symbolizes the diverse spectrum of potential gains and losses encountered during a race. Adding an extra layer of luck or chance, this open edition reveals unique rarities with each minting. 

The minting window is synchronized with the winning race time of the iconic Monaco F1 Grand Prix, infusing each piece with the exhilarating spirit and unpredictability of the sport.
