Engaged Dynamics is a reflection of SamJ’S trans non-binary experience participating in the world of fashion and beauty. To begin with the sheer garments, their intention is to showcase my tattoos which have given me a way to express my trans identity through reclaiming the flesh SamJ was born with. With the subject of my body, they created this dynamic pose to create a sense of motion and weightlessness calling to a divine energy, such as Jesus walking on water, or other religious and spiritual figures, and how it relates to the euphoria queer people feel when we are in spaces that allow us to completely engage with our true self.

SamJ continuously challenges the idea of the gender binary through their gender expression as a trans femme person to provide visibility for those who wish to engage with the power of femininity beyond the gender roles that have existed in the past centuries of colonial history.

Engaged Dynamics

Pushing virtual technology to its limit I am emphasizing the dissonance of self expression. The language and vocabulary we use to understand and express ourselves can easily be lost in translation when connecting to other people. We rely and assume that there is congruent depth and appreciation for the references and experiences that we build upon through our identity yet it is not always received by others in a harmonious manner. The use of my body scan to showcase not only my physical realism but also the expression of my tattoos and artwork I have curated onto myself, along with the garment I created is my attempt at showcasing my fullest identity. Yet to contrast this expression and reference postmodernist artists, such as Jeff Koons and Damien Hirst, I place to figure into a confined space opposite of a foil presence dripped in chrome. This is not only mirroring myself literally but also in terms of how it represents our identity and the way that it is perceived by others. This piece is the first NFT to use digital fashion in VR along with body scan and motion capture in a way that is truly embracing the realism of what could be the future of our metaverse. Featured during New York fashion week September 2022.

Commenting on the meta of current NFT desperation, I chose to also use elements to represent the matter of my previous work, such as this yellow dress previously worn in a performance piece at NFTNYC, and a the accent of red in the blood. Red is an ongoing color that has a clear through line connecting many of my works.
