As I celebrate my 40th birthday I wanted to create something that reflects how I feel at this point in my life. Family, love, loss, joy, pain, excitement, sadness, and everything that goes along with the human experience. Coming to an understanding that we are much greater than we think.

I created this artwork on July 27th, 2019. It was in the middle of summer in the southern US, which gets very hot and humid. At this point in my artistic journey, I had been incorporating deep oranges and reds throughout, which helped create a moody and warm look to this piece. This color scheme has become a well-known color palette in my works over the years.

As we go through our lives, things change. Thoughts, ideas, emotions, deep core beliefs, worldviews, relationships. It can feel like we are in a freefall trying to reach up and desperately grab onto anything familiar. As we deal with these changes everything around us can seem frozen as we fall through these feelings.

The Skull was created on October 5th, 2016. I had started experimenting with subsurface scattering in Cinema4D at this point. This was created using C4D's native render engine at the time, the physical renderer.
