You walk so many places in your life, even if you stay mostly at the same place. Look around yourself and you will see smaller or bigger life stories everywhere, that are hiding behind the doors and windows.

Three prisoners sentenced to death - Aaron, Billy and Chris - are in solitary cells when the governor decides to randomly pardon one of them. He tells the name of the lucky one to the prison guard, asking him to keep this information secret for several more days. 
Rumors of this reach Aaron and he tries to persuade the guard to him to tell him who is being pardoned. The guard refuses.

"Then tell me the name of one of the others who will be executed", Aaron says. "If Billy is pardoned, say Chris; if Chris is pardoned, say Billy. If I am pardoned, flip a coin to decide between Billy’s name and Chris'."

"But when you see me flip a coin," the guard replies, "you will know that you are the pardoned one. And if you see me not flip a coin, then you will know the one who is not pardoned."

"Then don’t tell me now, but tomorrow.“, says Aaron.

The guard, who knows little about probability theory, thinks about it that night and decides to follow Aaron’s suggested procedure, assuming he would not give him any help in estimating his chances of survival if Aaron did not know whether he flipped the coin. The next morning, he informs Aaron that Billy will be executed.

After the guard disappears, Aaron smiles at the guard's stupidity: either Chris will be pardoned or he will be pardoned himself, so his chance of survival has gone from 1⁄3 to 1⁄2.

The guard does not know that Aaron can communicate with Chris, who is sitting in the neighboring cell, by giving knocking signals over a water pipe. He tells him everything in detail that he has discussed with the guard. Chris is equally pleased with the news because he concludes that his chances of survival have also increased to 1⁄2.
