Vanitas refers to the transience and fleeting nature of life and the inevitability of death. It is a reminder of the importance of living a meaningful life, as well as the impermanence of earthly possessions.

Oneiric Tail

It's been discovered that fungal spores survive in the vacuum of space and can withstand interplanetary travel. So, the Panspermia hypothesis states that life on Earth could have been brought by a comet carrying spores, originating from a far away planet. Today, fungi plays a huge role in the symbiosis of life, and has been the source of inspiration for the discovery of DNA's double helix, among other existential discoveries. All of this is not a coincidence, mushrooms can reveal to us many answers about the mysteries of our place in the universe. Maybe its ultimate goal is to guide us back to its planet of origin, doing so by helping life thrive on Earth and inspiring humans to evolve and explore beyond our planet.

Panspermia

A visual ode to the original Surrealists, the ones who conceived the vision and captured irrational images from the subconscious and dream states. Today the term "Surrealism" is often used loosely, slapped onto any artwork with even the slightest hint of abstraction. This has led to a dilution of the true essence of Surrealism, and few artists today stay true to the movement's ethos and dream-like imagery. This piece is a statement on this issue and my interpretation of it.





Requiem for Surrealism

Between wakefulness and sleep, there exists a state of consciousness in which hallucinations peak. Fueled by the pineal gland, our third eye, hypnagogic states can induce a type of dream, a lucid dream. The act of becoming aware of being inside a dream unlocks the potential of gaining control within this realm. A powerful tool, one that allows to consciously explore the limitless reality of the dream world.

The Present

AZAR, the mxtter genesis collection, is inspired by the "test prints" of screen printing. Screenprints are created one color, one layer at a time. Typically, artists or printers test each layer before starting the print run, using pages from previous prints or misprinted paper. These sheets slowly gather more layers of color and artworks from different artists. 

The resulting prints are impossible to plan -- accidents and imperfections are welcomed. 

With AZAR, MendezMendez and Ger wanted to transfer this concept to the world of art generated by code. They have created layers and layers of textures, color spots, halftones, collages, and various illustrations to create unique pieces, letting the code randomly define what will happen to each one. AZAR is a tribute to imperfection, mistakes, and randomness, from which beautiful things are born.
