A turning point in my career was January 2021. We moved across the state from Northern California back to Southern California during the surge of COVID19 cases in the pandemic with our 1yr old son. My anxiety was at its peak and in a daze, this was the first image I created after arriving home in Newport Beach, California. It made me feel at peace.

The month of January also coincided with my discovery of the app called Clubhouse which forever changed the trajectory of my art after learning about non-fungible tokens (NFTs) on Ethereum. During this time I not only returned home to my roots, but I also found a new home for my art on the blockchain.


THE HISTORY OF THIS PIECE

Minted on November 27, 2021 this token has evolved. The image and title for Plate 1 was originally unrevealed. I chose to reflect on the crypto art industry through my work by using the tech. It is fascinating how people blindly mint generative art projects, trusting the artwork will be desirable to them. I found this phenomenon unique to this developing industry and wanted this piece of art to reflect that in its reveal symbolizing how much the collector trusts the artist. On November 27, 2022 the token was listed for auction with no reserve via Manifold, echoing how much I trust the collector.

The final image was revealed after being collected by pixelpete on November 28, 2022.

This image becomes a visual poem, an intricate dance of light and shadow. It unfolds as the tides narrate the tale of impermanence, inviting me to explore the eternal dialogue between land and sea. The image erases the boundaries between these worlds, leaving behind a canvas painted with water and sand. Through this photograph, I decipher the language of impermanence, gaining a glimpse into the ever-changing world that surrounds me. It encapsulates the essence of flux and transformation, where my perspective shifts with each ebbing wave.

This photograph compels me to peer beneath the surface of the mundane, revealing the extraordinary within the ordinary. Upon the sandy canvas, kelp blades emerge in a striking, almost otherworldly manner. These sinuous forms rise from the earth as if they hold the secrets of the abyss. They echo the mysterious depths of existence.

The Central California coastline is pristine and wild. During the pandemic, when isolation and chaos had taken their toll on so many, the healing power of nature had become a refuge of solace and escape. The rugged cliffs and crashing waves are a stark reminder of the resilience of the natural world, providing hope and beauty in a time of darkness. This image captures the profound impact that finding solace in nature can have on the human spirit.

Change is inevitable in life. Sometimes you are prepared; often you are not. Becoming a mother and being faced with COVID19 catalyzed a new, unexpected path in my work. Often pulled in many directions with so little time, I realized I needed to become my own subject as a process of self-empowerment through vulnerability. 

I chose to reveal this image on my birthday 2.2.22, a powerful number to me, signifying a new era valuing myself as a women in a male dominated industry. This is the first self portrait I have ever released through my art.

THE HISTORY OF THIS PIECE  
This image was one of the earlier photographs, listing ID #48, listed on 2.2.22 through Manifold as a beta test before Manifold Gallery was released publicly later that year. Using this significant image she was able to share with the photography industry a new way to utilize the developing technology for artists to take back control of their work. The listing was linked directly to the artist's website at plate2.cardelucci.com, a feature not available to most artists at the time.

The surge in Bitcoin inscriptions served as a source of inspiration, leading me to
contemplate the concept of art being encoded directly on the blockchain tokens. To
capture this idea in the physical world, I created an image capturing nature’s
markings preserved on natural rock.

This exploration of permanence and preservation is ingrained in my work, as I am
fascinated by the idea of using different methods of permanence. Just as the
markings on the rock have been preserved over time, I see the potential for my own
art to be preserved through the blockchain, immortalizing it in a new and exciting
way.

CARDELUCCI is an ongoing body of photography, continuously documenting striking moments through shadow and light on the blockchain.  Beginning in 2021, coinciding with her discovery of art on Ethereum,  each “Plate” is an original work of art recorded on a 2021 Manifold custom smart contract. She chose this old photography term, used for glass plate negatives, to denote her original works of art on her contract. It's a nod to the history of photography as well as the phenomenon seen in Crypto Art where many generative art collections are numbered.  With the development of the blockchain, photographs are no longer bound to physical prints for the work to be valued. The photograph, the true art, is enough. 

I was deeply moved by my son's affection when he presented me with this handful of plumerias from the garden, clutching them in his little hands and whispering, "beautiful bouquet for mom."

GM Sunshine No9

GM Sunshine is a generative photography collection. Using procedural editing, these 98 photographs are derived from a single abstract image of the sun.

Drawn to sunrises and sunsets people share a common need to experience and photograph them. These remarkable events are experienced uniquely each day. During the pandemic, the daily cycle of the sun kept repeating as I lost track of time. I became inspired to document the sun and its singularity expressed in multiples. These moments are so fleeting and unique each day, they remind us of something bigger than ourselves. The sunset, a symbol of an end is followed by a new beginning, its sunrise. What started as a personal body of work reflecting on a deeper connection to the sun turned into a project nodding to the NFT community and the early innovators within. GM, the future is bright.

In honor of the beloved GMs and my late grandmother, Sunshine.

Wild Mustangs: Dust

Jessica has had a lifelong companionship with horses. After the passing of her beloved horse, she turned back to photographing the wild mustangs as a way to reconnect with these beautiful animals.

Mustangs are protected under The Wild Free-Roaming Horses and Burros Act of 1971 but today in an effort to control the population, the U.S. Bureau of Land Management (BLM) is rounding horses off our public lands, taking away their freedom. These efforts come with much controversy in how to properly and humanely manage our cherished mustangs.

While these horses are stuck in the crossfire of an emotional and controversial struggle, Jessica encourages the viewer to take interest in the mustangs and help preserve their place on our lands. Mustangs are living symbols of the American West and these images are a tribute to them.

For me, photography is the ultimate expression of art, elevating the essence of our existence to a higher plane. It allows me to capture moments that define our lives, to create a visual archive of the human experience.

My photography captures fleeting moments through light and shadow, immortalized as one-of-a-kind Plates. Through the blockchain, I challenge the traditional value of physical art and offer a new paradigm that transcends the mundane.

I invite exploration of the profound truths concealed beneath the ordinary. As I gaze upon this image, my attention is drawn to the hidden treasures of the shore, strewn like stardust upon the sand. The abalone shells, delicate and weathered, reflect the vast cosmos above, inspiring reflection on the interconnectedness of the microcosm and macrocosm. They represent the mysteries that await unraveling. This photograph is an exploration of revelation, unveiling the hidden depths that lie beneath the surface of existence.

In this work, I explore the profound interplay of light inspired by the ever-changing ocean's surface. We are reminded of life's ever-present enigma, encouraging us to decode the messages subtly woven within the radiant fabric of our surroundings. Ultimately, it's a reflection of life's intricate design, a profound revelation of our interconnectedness with the cosmos, and an invitation to find the extraordinary within the beautiful mundane.

Plates 13 - 18 are an extension of my ongoing body of work, a continuation of my artistic exploration. They are meant to be viewed together as a cohesive set within this greater archive.
