Investigating architectural space we see it as a phenomenon that exists in the universe or anywhere where human perception can wander. This is also how we perceive the digital space of Web3. Inspired by the new wave of technology we want to explore and visualize the conceptual space of Web3.

According to NASA, "GAIA is a European space observatory whose goal is to chart a three-dimensional map of the Milky Way galaxy in order to reveal the composition, formation and evolution of the galaxy."  
In this artwork - we create architectural space and bring it into an abstract dimension, that resembles the idea of cosmic space, a space with no gravity, and no point of reference to visualize a landscape of the Metaverse.

        In this artwork, we investigate the relationships within the space. We enhance the experience and perception of space within the concept of architecture and spatial design.        

Investigating architectural space we see it as a phenomenon that exists in the universe or anywhere where human perception can wander. We see space as a relationship between parts and human perception.       

The artwork stems from an architectural research in depth developed around the idea of the Gestalt method. 
In application to architectural design, ‘the main idea of Gestalt psychology states that the meaning of the whole can’t be reached by individual parts because of the dynamic and organic relationships between the individual parts that integrate it.’  We believe this experience of space translates into many areas of human life.       

This artwork is created through 3D hand sculpting and digital linear hand drawing techniques. 
       We used the 3D modelling technique to carve the metamorphic form that represents architectural space, a 3D sculpture that provides a spatial experience of architectural Interface.        Then, after analysing it, we used the carved 3D model as a basis for the detailed speculative imaginative drawing. Using the digital linear hand-drawing technique we reinforce the moments of pressure, tension and interaction between parts of the space.        

Being exposed to different cultures and have experienced space and distance in our lives, we transform our experiences into unique work to push the boundaries of the perception of space.

Employing their signature techniques that include a fusion of digital speculative linear drawing and digital sculpting methods, MABLAB meticulously crafted their unique and intricate interpretations of elements within Piranesi's historical plan of Campo Marzio.

Just as the Big Bang laid the foundation for all life as we know it, the evolution of life has ushered in a pivotal moment in history, marked by a technological explosion. Within this artwork, we endeavor to conceptualize the ever-expanding landscape of digital space and visualize the birth of the Metaverse. 

Deeply rooted in our extensive architectural research - Project Interface, our work invites a viewer to join us on a captivating journey to envision architectural interfaces, pushing the boundaries of spatial perception. Investigating the relationships within the space, we aim to elevate the experience and perception of architectural space within the themes of architecture and spatial design. Our concept contemplates space as a universal phenomenon, extending beyond our perception, and sees it as a dynamic relationship between its parts, and human perception.

Digitally hand sculpted with advanced 3D modeling techniques, the artwork breathes life into architectural space to embody its’ essence - a multi-dimensional spatial experience. The metamorphic forms converge to construct a cosmic landscape, interweaving diverse landscapes, surfaces, and textures, thus weaving an intricate web of relationships between different interface elements. 
The sublime qualities of space are imbued within these forms, emphasizing the moments of pressure, tension, and interaction, defining the interstitial spaces of the interface, resonating deeply with the human soul.

Gentle lines blend harmoniously with intricate meshes, forming a tapestry of space that invites the imagination to wander beyond human perception and even transcend our world. Inspired by The Theory of Big Bang and expansion of Metaverse. 

According to The Big Bang Theory, the Universe started as a single point and expanded to get as big as it is now and it keeps on stretching.       
Gravity, one of the four major forces of the Universe, was the first force that started separating from three other forces during The Grand Unification Era. The Grand Unification Era took place between 10(-43) seconds and 10(-35) seconds of The Big Bang.

Everything we can see in our universe today - stars, planets, comets, asteroids, where did they come from?        
Currently, we live through unique time when we can witness an explosion and expansion of Web3 technology and creation of Metaverse. What is the future of the Metaverse?

In this artwork we wanted to visualise a landscape of expansion of the Metaverse and create a conceptual space of Web3.

Based on our architectural research in depth we see Metaverse as a phenomenon of space. A phenomenon, that can only happen as an interaction between human perception and environment. The dynamics, tension and movement within the parts form this space, creating the unique experience of Metaverse.

The artwork stems from an architectural research in depth, called project Interface. Each artwork comes from a unique process that involved hand sculpting in different mediums, starting from physical sculpting and into a 3D digital hand sculpting. This artwork was created through digital 3D hand sculpting.

When the universe began, it was just hot, tiny particles mixed with light and energy. The Big Bang layed the foundation for everything in the Universe that we know as life. What is the future of the Metaverse? 

Coming from Metaverse Big Bang concept, the artwork is inspired by the Nebula Model. 
Widely accepted in modern cosmology, Nebula Model explains the formation and evolution of stars and planets across our universe. A random dense region inside the clouds starts to collapse under its own gravity, after attracting enough matter. The center of the proto-star grows denser and hotter and leads to a thermonuclear fusion. A new star is now born. Atoms of hydrogen begin to combine and start to form helium atoms, this releases the energy that makes the star begin to shine.

Inception. Piranesi's Legacy as Inspiration: MABLAB's Vision Unveiled

The project's inception is rooted in MABLAB's original idea, as stated in their academic research back in 2016: “Piranesi’s Iconographic plan of reconstruction is not just a representation of architectural forms and memory fragments, it could be understood as a diagrammatic field. The field of transformations, where buildings and architectural elements are reduced to simple geometric structures and used as a material for the construction of a new, different vision of a city. Piranesi’s Campo Marzio plan could be understood as an instrument, a ‘generative device’, It is an autonomous and self-sufficient matter in a state of continuous motion. When the public spaces between the architectural structures are being reduced and could be understood as part of the architectural structures, becoming a sort of collective interior. In this case, the whole plan appears as a continuum of interiors, as a ‘sea of formal fragments’.“

Piranesi's Monumental Vision: "Ichnographia Campo Marzio"

Piranesi's "Ichnographia Campo Marzio" (“Field of Mars” - eng.) completed in 1762, illustrates an imaginative and monumental vision of the ancient Field of Mars in Rome. A massive and visionary work of reinvention, both in scale and thematic scope, this remarkably detailed etching presents a detailed plan of the Field of Mars.

Piranesi masterfully took existing remnants and historical knowledge of ancient Rome's Field of Mars, infused it with historical insights, and transformed it into a fantastic and utopian multifaceted urban landscape, seamlessly weaving together real elements and his distinctive artistic interpretation.

Establishing a firm historical foundation, Piranesi’s legacy has a lasting impact and continues to inspire conceptually and stylistically, and can be felt from the works of various artists and architectural movements of Lebbeus Woods, Yakov Chernikhov, the hyper-tech labyrinths of Atelier Olschinsky and Alexander Brodsky, to Brutalism and the modern era, including the well known contemporary interpretation of Piranesi’s Campo Marzio, by Peter Eisenman, Pier Vittorio Aureli and Jeffrey Kipnis, presented at the 13th International Biennale in 2012, themed “Common Ground”.
