This poem, "Day 0" is the first in the "Degen Poetry" collection by Kevin DeAngelis 

This piece is focused around both connection & vulnerability - The flood of emotions behind the realization of needing to begin a search for new connections in the wake of the loss of someone very important to me; as well as the vulnerability in allowing my own fragility to be on display by dropping the “mask” typically employed by  people to hide their emotions

This poem was airdropped to all current collectors of my previous works (24), as well as those who purchase "(dis)Connected" from Francien Krieg  (12) - as that portrait was inspired by this work of poetry and was done as a collaboration between myself and Francien.

.. Today is the beginning of the rest of my life

Or at least that’s what I keep telling myself..
Imposing is the task to rebuild my identity in the wake of you
The question of who I am, why I’m here, what I’m even supposed to do

My days are hell, but it beats the nightmares in my dreams
.. Walls closing in, water quickly rising up from below
The cold washes over me, panic ensues at the anxiety overflow

As it fills up all around me, I try to gasp one last breath
I’m barely afloat, alone in the deep with only your pictures to reminisce
The emotions have the wheel now – and the track’s headed towards the abyss

I awaken as a passenger, strapped into a future I didn’t choose
Hurling into a new life, pitch black at high speeds
Day 0: Where of where will this new track lead?

I pen this because I have no clue, no fucking idea what I’m supposed to do

But this is the face I seek, and I do it to grow...
Displaying my flaws in public via rhymes and flow...

Dialing up my subconscious to see...
The answers were clearly displayed on the caller ID...
In attaining my progress, self-awareness the key...
As this cell's powerhouse runs off growth as its ATP...
In the end all I can do is be me...
So I hope that this truth will eventually set me free...
