Piet Mondrian's masterpiece 'Broadway Boogie-Woogie' was created in 1942 when he moved to the United States due to the war, drawing inspiration from his experience, the urban elements of New York, and jazz music.

'NYC Boogie-Woogie' reinterprets this work from the perspective of 2023 New York, which has become the center of NFT, by adding movement and deconstruction to the formal grid and lines of the original work, thus enhancing pluralism and diversity. It evokes infinite movement and change through a combination of the past and present.

The De Stijl movement is an art movement that emphasizes the decomposition and recombination of aesthetic expression to create new forms. Pixel art is recognized as one of the important forms of digital art. This work incorporates the relationship between pixels, the smallest unit in the digital realm, and the De Stijl movement that permeates postmodernism.

It represents the azure dragon and is associated with water, as well as being one of the four celestial guardians, symbolizing the east, and is representative of spring and wood. It is considered an emblem of new beginnings, hope, positive change, prosperity, and growth. Additionally, the dragon is an important mythical animal symbolizing power, wisdom, and longevity.

The year 2024 is known as the Year of the Blue Dragon. This year is particularly seen as a time for change and growth, a period ripe for new opportunities. Many people look forward to positive changes and new beginnings during this time. ‘Impression, GM’ is a reinterpretation of Claude Monet's "Impression, Sunrise" as today’s GM.  I connected the past and the present, linking two mornings. I worked while thinking about the past morning shown in Monet's "Sunrise" and the morning we shared through GM today.

In Asia, dragons symbolize rain, the sea, and also spring as divine beings. In the past agricultural societies, people believed that dragons controlled rain, droughts, and floods, all of which greatly affected farming. Therefore, during droughts, they would paint dragons and perform rain rituals to pray for rain. Furthermore, at the beginning of the new year, regardless of family lineage or social status, people had the tradition of putting up dragon paintings on their doors to welcome the spring, signaling a new beginning after winter. These paintings symbolize the arrival of spring to the long drought-stricken digital art market.
