Shot on the West Coast of O'ahu at the Lanikuhonua Cultural Institute in October of 2018. Allowing the palms to cover the entire frame while looking up gave me an abstract yet beautiful view, like Palm Tree fireworks exploding overhead. Using the CineStill 50d film stock reduced the grain and gave a great muted colors to the palms on the overcast sky.

The first episode of my "Manhattan Project" was inspired by my love for New York and my home in Manhattan Beach, CA. I wanted to know what it would feel like to be in both places at the same time. 

While creating this piece, I visualized coming out of the Park Ave Tunnel at E. 40th Street and instead of the MetLife Building, you're met with the warm West Coast light and the Manhattan Beach Pier in California.

After making Episode I, I was inspired to explore both cities and find more opportunities to tell this story.

Manhattan Project: Episode I

Good Morning from the City of Angeles. 

I woke up and saw the sky starting to light up to the east, left the house, headed west to the beach for sunrise. As I made my way down the Boulevard the sky behind me exploded with light, the morning fog held the pastel color. The buses lined up waiting for kids added another element to this amazing "gm" scene.

The second episode of my "Manhattan Project" was inspired by my love for New York and my home in Manhattan Beach, CA. I wanted to know what it would feel like to be in both places at the same time. 

These images from Manhattan, NY and Manhattan Beach, CA were captured on my Leica in 2017.

In the foreground, the Manhattan Beach Pier was shot from a helicopter at 1,000 feet. The Lower Manhattan scene was taken from the Manhattan Bridge at Sunset.

I imagined the mythical NYC Ferry bringing commuters across the East River after a long day of work in Lower Manhattan before finally docking at their quiet refuge in Manhattan Beach, CA.

After making Episodes I & II the inspiration grew to explore both cities and find more opportunities to tell this story.

Manhattan Project: Episode II

The Magic of Montmartre. 

Few places hold mystique around every corner like the streets of Montmartre. This image held for me one of those moments. 

Montmartre allows visitors to walk the same cobblestone streets as Monet, Renoir, Degas, Picasso, and van Gogh. For photographers, it can harken back to the days of Henri Cartier-Bresson roaming in search of the decisive moment with his Leica in hand. 

On this March evening, I was making my way down Place du Tertre towards my favourite Parisian outlook. Classical music playing in the distance caught my ear, I followed the notes around a corner to a scene from a Jean-Luc Godard movie. This street performer balancing in perfect rhythm to Prelude & Fugues. An audience of one, a character dressed the part in his long coat with a bowler hat and a slight smile stands silently captivated by the performance.

I took this in, it was magic, I lowered myself, composed, and waited for that “decisive moment”, a single frame from my Leica capturing this moment in Montmartre.

A moment in time, French teenagers spend their afternoon on the end of a small cement jetty with a few beers sharing a pack of cigarettes. They were taking turns jumping into the cool blue water of the Mediterranean. I walked up to them and tried to speak in my very broken first-grade level French, the boys were nice enough to laugh and reply in English.

I hung out with them for a bit and shot a few images of the cruise ships and the iconic stretch of hotels along the shoreline. One of the boys offered me a cigarette and a beer, then proudly told me I really should take a photo of all three of them, I obliged, when they ask to see it, I show them the back of my Leica and explained it was film. A little shocked a little confused...why film? That's a story for another day. 

One of the boys told me he was going to make "the perfect dive" and make sure I capture it. I composed...A single moment captured on my Leica, the light frozen in time on Kodak Film...and now minted on the blockchain.

The lady in orange. While wandering along Boulevard de la Croisette a woman in an orange dress and matching handbag making her way out towards the sea caught my eye. She looked to have stepped out of the 1960s and into 2018. I watched her reach her destination, a small cement jetty where two groups of teenagers were enjoying the sun. There it was a classic Cannes backdrop with cruise ships and blue waters of the French Riviera. I composed the frame...A single moment captured on my Leica, the light frozen in time on Kodak Film...and now minted on the blockchain.

Manhattan Project: Holiday Edition

The scene was set on a hot August afternoon in Brooklyn, as the sun beat down on the pavement. A shirtless skater looked up at the Manhattan Bridge looming in the background, its steel structure shining in the bright sunlight. 

He kick-pushed, picking up speed approaching the ledge. The onlookers, some with iPhone in hand, watched in awe as he jumped into the air, spinning his board with precision and grace. The board spins 360 degrees as the one foot guides it and the other kicks out, performing a perfect kick flip. The board lands back on the pavement with a satisfying clack that all skaters know.

The scene is captured on film, freezing this moment in time. The skater's movement, the steel structure of the Manhattan Bridge, the onlookers recording the scene on their iPhone, all are captured in this one frame, creating a unique and powerful image. A scene that would be a nostalgic reminder of a time in the 1970s or 80's, where the film captured the raw and authentic moments of the city.

I'm stoked to share the story behind "Shaka and Naka" a piece that bridges my love for surf culture and the transformative energy of today's digital art scene. I drew inspiration from the one-sheet for the iconic 1966 surf documentary "The Endless Summer," which captured surfers chasing the perfect wave across the globe. Back in the '60s, this film inspired the early surf community —woodies, bikinis, single-fin logs, and baggies became symbols of freedom, and the lifestyle exploded, influencing art, music, and fashion. It was a grassroots revolution, with surfers forming tight-knit, rebellious communities worldwide, hungry for connection and adventure, with a "hunter-gatherer" mentality.

Now, I see echoes of that in the crypto and NFT world, particularly with 
6529 memes. These digital artworks, like my "Summer Shaka" inspired by XCOPY's "Summer.jpg" and "Naka" nodding to Bitcoins Satoshi Nakamoto, spark a similar cultural wildfire. Cryptos' decentralized, community-driven spirit mirrors the surf scene's DIY ethos—both are about breaking free, building something new, and spreading a message far and wide. Just as "The Endless Summer" united surfers in 1966, the memes rally a global digital tribe, pushing for an open metaverse and self-sovereignty in 2025 and beyond. 

I'm honored for the opportunity to create this piece, thankful for 6529's platform and 6529er's creative insights as I worked through this process, minting tomorrow March 5, 2025, as a tribute to both worlds I cherish and believe in.

I pulled elements of XCopy's summer.jpg and spread them around. Also pulled some bee's from a 6529er piece using them as some shadows.

Shot across from Soul Kitchen on Rue du Mont Cenis in Paris, it contrasts the fleeting motion of a motorcycle with the serene allure of café patrons soaking in Montmartre’s timeless atmosphere. A poetic snapshot of the city’s rhythm and soul.

Few places hold the ability to weave history, artistry, and the fleeting beauty of life quite like Montmartre. In my A Californian in Paris series, I sought to immerse myself in the same cobblestone streets where the echoes of Monet, Renoir, Degas, Picasso, and van Gogh still linger. As a photographer, the spirit of Henri Cartier-Bresson and his search for the decisive moment guided me through the timeless energy of Paris, Leica in hand.

The photographs in this collection are born of moments that couldn't be planned—moments that unfold like whispers from the past and collide with the present. From a street artist laughing with his muse to the rose-colored twilight painting of the city's rooftops, each image mediates balance, rhythm, and storytelling. The streets of Montmartre became more than a backdrop; they were my collaborator, every corner drawing me into scenes of wonder and introspection.

This series invites you to step into a Paris that feels both familiar and dreamlike, where music drifts between the alleys, golden light dances on cobblestones, and the hum of the city is an ever-present heartbeat. Through ACIP, I hope to share the beauty of Paris and the quiet magic of discovering life in balance—the La Vie en Équilibre that reminds us to pause, breathe, and truly see the world around us.
