Works here are created using a variety of AI modeling techniques - GAN, vqgan, diffusion modeling, and more. All generative pipelines are custom.

The "Surreal Life" is a collection of 251 completely generative still life works. Each painting is unique and generated from artificial intelligence using a deep learning architecture called diffusion modeling. 

The classical shapes, patterns, and colors of traditional still life are captured from millions of images and then transformed into the synthetic fruits, flowers, and vases seen in each composition.

When you look at any artwork that involves intricate details and patterns, several things happen when you squint. It can allow you to perceive the image more realistically or cohesively for several reasons: details are simplified, contrast is enhanced, depth perception is increased, there is increased focus on the overall composition, and peripheral distractions are limited.

In this collection, the artwork can be appreciated by its precise, machine-like qualities (algorithmic generated vectors), but another possibility exists. The viewer can also reveal hidden surprises by squinting. The artwork was purposefully created to harbor these illusions, encouraging us not to be overwhelmed by details. By changing the amount of light entering your eye, you can appreciate the broader strokes of composition, contrast, and spatial arrangement that contribute to the unexpected realism of these geometric creations.
