In life, we are not often granted moments that stop you in your place, to admire the beauty of what you’re seeing. Its been said that humans and whales have strong similarities which is why we develop lasting connections viewing these pinnacles of the ocean. 

Humpbacks make one of the longest animal migrations known to man, and they do so without fail every single year. In the summertime, the humpbacks gather down south in the chilly Arctic waters, where they feed plentifully on krill. This is their feeding season and readies them for the journey ahead to give birth.

Each year, I travel 2 hours to the ocean in the hope of witnessing them travel up the Pacific during their northern migration along the coastline. On this occasion, I spotted what appeared to be a small pod of humpbacks, several kilometres out to sea. I hastily launched my drone out towards the sprays and was left completely speechless by what I was witnessing. A pod of 5 whales gracefully travelling as one, in the clearest waters of the deep that I had ever filmed. 

All the years of patiently waiting had culminated into this one moment, as the leader of the pod came up for a single breath of fresh air, before diving into the depths below. When I flew the drone back, I was numb with satisfaction from the footage I had captured. A truly surreal moment to be fully immersed in the beauty of nature.

The sight of a lone humpback whale is unmatched. Their graceful temperament paired with natural aura is enough to fill anyone with bewilderment. They are the true voyagers of the deep, each with a different story to tell.

On a late afternoon in August of 2021, I was about to head home from my local vantage point after patiently waiting for several hours to get a glimpse of some whales. As I began flying my drone back to the shore, a lone humpback appeared from the depths below. With very little battery left on the drone, I had only moments to capture its movements. As fast as this lone whale had appeared, it descended into the depths of the earth - continuing on its journey through the unknown.

As the waves crashed, It felt as-though I was watching earths own dorsal fin being born. This rock formation has held strong through the tides of time to form the Jaws like shape known world wide. 

This picture depicts a unique illusion of a dorsal fin cutting through the chaotic seas, leaving behind it a broken white wash.

With its massive body suspended momentarily in mid-air, this whale seemed in between the presence of two worlds, transcending the boundaries of both sea and sky. Droplets of water hung in suspended animation, sparkling like diamonds caught in the golden sunlight, creating a spectacle that defied my imagination. 

This perfect alignment is a moment I have been searching to capture for several years. An awe-inspiring moment compared similar to finding a needle in a haystack - A zenith of natural perfection.

It was a huge reminder of the vastness and grandeur of our natural world and glimpse into nature's artistry. true testament to the enduring majesty of these creatures that call the ocean their home.

There is a peace within that can only be experienced in the midst of a storm. 

As I stood in face of this passing cell, I couldn't help but feel a sense of calm amongst the tremors of thunderous clouds. Layer upon layer, this storm passed across the coast creating some of the most unique textures in the sky. 

Even in the face of this storm, I felt completely at ease witnessing such a  powerful display of mother natures beauty - A perfect storm

In the deep blue waters of the pacific ocean, this lone humpback graciously navigated the waters. 

As I flew in its presence & absolute awe of this creature, It started to reveal the toll of the dangers and challenges that come with a life of solitude in the ocean. As it surfaced for air, there were deep cuts from the sharp teeth of hungry predators and patches of rough skin where the humpback had scraped against rocks and coral reefs. 

Despite all the scars, this whale continued to swim gracefully through the ocean, never giving up on its journey determined to see all that the ocean had to offer. True testament to this creatures sheer strength and size.
