This work marks the beginning of a journey which my work embarked on in 2020, after finding panels of discarded crate wood, which I used to make painting surfaces. It is the first of an ongoing series of abstract oil paintings which are all of exactly the same dimensions. It has been a journey of exploration of the wood surface, which through its grain reveals its history, and what may develop through processes of chance and intentionality, resulting in a space which hovers between the realms of the abstract and the figurative, the known and the unknown.

Everything is in a constant state of change. In this painting I captured a moment of this phenomenon. The work may be interpreted in different ways, it could be a mutation occurring at a microscopic level, or a process of transformation within the subconscious or the soul. We are part of this perpetually changing universe, our bodies and minds are in constant evolving motion.
The process of creating this painting resonates with this concept. The frame on which the canvas was stretched was from a found abandoned painting, which I rescued and revived, I then used the decalcomania technique to lay down a base layer for the work, thus capturing a random moment of change.
Hence the artist is a catalyst for transformation, turning materials into objects of value, bringing them into existence like treasured icons which may eventually outlive their creator, to be admired by future generations with different social circumstances. Art is eternal and its impact is endless.
