Dendrites by Jens Clarholm
Dendrites is a generative artwork by Jens ‘jenslabs’ Clarholm that visualises a formation of digital dendrites, reaching out to connect and form a cluster of colour and surprise.
By using the mathematical model from his drawing machine, Jens is able to calculate a number of points that enable him to create a series of vectors. Each vector can be thought of as an arrow describing a force and direction. Each shape is made up of between 10,000 and 40,000 vectors.
Just as any good force field is invisible, so is the force field created here. To make it visible, Jens releases a number of particles at each of the starting points of each of the vectors - think of the particles as small drops of paint. These 40,000 drops will then flow through the force field and the force field is revealed.
