I thought I had gotten past all of this, that the narratives tugging at me, acting aggressively as if to tear my clothes, had left me. But they managed to escape from the chest I had locked them in, because I had locked myself in there with them. I had given them advice, reminding them to make their presence known from time to time, to inspire me, and to make me tremble. Though weakened from not seeing daylight, I know they’ll return to their former strength within hours, perhaps even stronger. I can’t understand how they’ve managed to survive without food or water; maybe they don’t need human weaknesses like hunger or thirst. They seem to have found a harmony within themselves—even though each belongs to a different time and a different universe, they now communicate perfectly, plotting to overpower and elevate me once again. Watching them in these moments is pure enjoyment for me, like sitting in a theater with a bucket of popcorn, eagerly anticipating the next scene. I wonder what they’ll do to me, what they’ll take or give, and how it will trigger something within me. I may be the director of the film, but the actors never listen to me.
