I am fading away” – A figure slowly dissolving into nothingness, their face vanishing into the void. The background glows in warm orange tones, evoking a sense of quiet disappearance, like the last light before fading into darkness.

This piece is a reflection on time—how it moves, fades, and leaves its mark. Inspired by The Monument Game by Sam Spratt and its exploration of memory and legacy, I painted my own hand holding a skull. Not to recreate an image, but to express something deeply personal.

I’ve spent time close to death. That experience changes how you see the world, how you measure time, and what you choose to hold onto. The marks creeping up the wrist are a sign of that change—like time itself taking hold, like something seeping in, altering, possessing. A reminder that nothing stays untouched.*

Everything burned — the trees, the skies, the distance.  
But not us.

that if this is how it ends,  
I’m glad it was with you.

“Under the Apple Tree”  
A young boy sits quietly beneath a heavy-limbed apple tree, the light of the afternoon soft around him. He holds a sunflower gently, as if it were something sacred. There is no rush, no sound  only the hush of wind through the leaves and the distant warmth of memory. This is not a portrait of a moment, but of something deeper: the stillness before understanding, the quiet beginning of remembering.

A skeleton in a suit sits quietly, holding a bouquet of sunflowers.  
No sadness, no fear just stillness.  
As if he waited too long, or perhaps just long enough.

The flowers burn gently, like remnants of warmth that memory couldn’t extinguish.  
Around him, the petals fall slowly, softly 
as if even the ground mourned the beauty that once was.

It’s not death that speaks here.  
It’s the moment after everything has been felt.  
A final frame. A last breath.  
A love that outlived the one who carried it.

A man in a black suit slumps across a faded red sofa. His face is hidden by a simple white sheet of paper pinned over his eyes — marked with a single red letter: L.  
Love? Loss? A label, a brand, or a mask? We don’t know. But we know he’s no longer there.

Around him, playing cards are scattered, carelessly dropped. One rests against his heart like a fragile badge of identity. The wall behind is empty, save for a near-blank canvas  a red line, a trace, or perhaps the last spark of meaning.

Symbolical note :

The “L”: a poetic shorthand — for Love, for Loser, for the Letter we never sent.  
	•	The hidden face: erased identity, voluntary disappearance.  
	•	The red sofa: exhausted comfort, internal decay.  
	•	The cards: fragments of choice and chance.  
	•	The silence: intentional — a pause, not a full stop.

The Man on the Sofa is not sleeping. He’s hiding. Behind a letter, behind himself.  
It’s about the beautiful weight of letting go —not in drama, but in quiet resignation. A portrait of retreat, and a tender resistance to being seen.
