Pixel Mayan Fantasy

Inspired by my early childhood where the X-Files TV show and fictional aliens populated my imagination, "AREA: Unknown -Mod 19-" is an homage work where pixel art nostalgia meets digital innovation. The model is inspired on recovered spaceship, stored in a basement, where the military conduct experiments to reveal its functionality and purpose.

The Grid Vase 3D model was the actual beginning of my ARTIFACTUAL collection. It represents the passage from AI image generation to an actual 3D-printed vase made of clay or glass. The idea here was to make AI function as a vessel to materialize an abstract concept inspired by Claire Silver's work "CORPO_REAL" mixed with my own Pixlosophy concept, where any idea is represented by an artwork that transports the viewer into a multi-dimensional sensorial reflection. 

The Artifactual Digital collection is an ongoing series. It will have a 3D model accompanied by a 2D thumbnail. The intention is that the collector can print their piece if they want to do so, but also to visualize it as an AR artwork.  It will also be related to the "Artifactual - Material" collection later on, where these pieces will have unique, 1/1, 3D printed + handcrafted representations powered by TRACE by Transient Labs.

This piece was the most representative one of the collection. It won 5th place at Claire Silver's Contest in 2024.

This work is the second still piece from the "Pixlosophy II" collection, and it marks a continuation of my journey in the intricate world of AI-powered Neo-Pixelism. Following the success of its predecessor, PIXEL_ARCADIA, which debuted earlier this year at the A2's Eindhoven exhibition, this piece takes pixel art into new dimensions of complexity and philosophical depth. Themes from classical mythology, digital culture, and existential thought, are explored here blurring lines between control and fate, creator and creation, game and reality.

Rendered in a style that blends the nostalgic aesthetics of 90s video game graphics with nostalgia and strong symbology, this work bridges the realms of the digital and the philosophical. It represents the ongoing evolution of my vision and asks you a question as a viewer: are you a player or just a pawn in this game?

"PIXEL_ARCADIA" is the first 1/1 I minted on Ethereum in 2024. It represents a shift in focus for me, drawing inspiration from Hieronymus Bosch's timeless style while reflecting on the current hyperreality of our times. The work aims to transport us to a new dimension of detail and marvel.

This piece can be interpreted as a vision of a digital utopia—a world where technology enhances creativity and imagination. The vibrant landscapes and fantastical elements depict a future where the digital and natural worlds coexist symbiotically, showcasing technology's potential to enrich our lives.

The artwork was exhibited in Eindhoven as part of A2's Continuum Show (May 29th-May 30th), which reimagines the great masters of old in a new digital way.

It was created using Midjourney, ChatGPT4o, Dalle-3, and post-edited using Photoshop for color correction and inpainting, with additional detail enhancement via Magnific AI.

The Spatial Kisses

My obsession with the moon has accompanied me since I was an infant. When I saw Chaparro's Concrete Sphere in his catalog, it reminded me of a time when I lived in a small city in Mexico, in Uruapan. Outside of a hotel, there were some concrete spheres lying around, and I thought, as a little kid, that the moon was a giant concrete sphere, hanging in the skies. The resemblance, I thought, was uncanny.

The tribute I make here implies AI prompting, outpainting, and GIMP photo editing. The Sphere is not the actual sphere but my hybrid representation, trying to enact a feeling of Mexican nostalgia.

In a visit to Pompideu Museum, I found Charles Ray "Self-Portrait" so inspirational that I started following his whole work. 

I read Anthony Marasco noted his work as paratextual: or, paraphrasing Genett: “meaningful deceptions”: deceptions that engender meaning by overdriving interpretation."

As a Techno philosopher and artist myself. I found AI tools like the best choice to manifest this idea. Since I walked into that gallery, I felt bedazzled by the scenery and I read that he -Charles Ray- liked psychedelics as part of his experimentation. 

The idea here was to actually represent this meaningful deception, this overdriven interpretation, using a fictional landscape where this statue or three-dimensional self-portrait would inhabit.

I used Dalle-2 for the prompt, GIMP to edit some chaotic things & a post process filter.

"Let's go to play to the 'Stars' mom" - That was possibly the most repeated phrase I'd use with my mother back in the 90s. "Stars" Arcade was a fine establishment for a kid full of curiosity growing up in that era.

The fun we had. My cousins played with me, my little friends, and even my dad. It was a glorious place full of Synthwave music, neon lights, and pixels on screens.  It was a temple to me.

Now that I think of it, it makes me wanna go back badly.

I made this 'Pixel Nostalgia' animation clip about that place. The mood it builds is just cool. 

The music is also original. Nostalgia, it seems, is just a bridge to joyful moments.

This Pixel Art piece is about when I was around four years old. I remember my dad telling me there was an air balloon festival happening in my hometown. He couldn't take me to the event, though I didn't know why. Maybe he couldn't afford it, or maybe he was just busy working at home.

Suddenly, one of the hot air balloons appeared in front of us. I remember watching it crossing the skies, very slowly, while he explained masterfully how balloons like those worked. When I think of this memory, I immediately think of '99 Red Balloons' by Nena. This picture gives me a very soothing sensation of sharing that space with dad. 

My Pixel Nostalgia Collection is just about this: bringing us back to those memories.

The process was hidden behind the glittering facades of arcades, turning a nefarious scheme into an alluring game.

The Unmovable Mover is a concept attributed to Aristotle. In it, he sees the explanation of the Cosmos. A principle so perfect that it moves while preserving its essence. It is and it is not. It moves while resting, and stays still because it iterates.

Dynamis / Potentia... In perpetual act and potency.

My intention here was to provide a visually immersive experience of its fundamentals, even though this would be only an approximation.

In an alternate Jerusalem, fate crafts a stark tale. Pontius Pilate, the iron-fisted Roman prefect of Judaea, falls victim to a conspiracy of betrayal. His secret meeting with Jesus of Nazareth, meant to quell Pilate's intrigue about Jesus’s influence, disastrously backfires. Their conversation, reaching the Sanhedrin and Rome, kindles accusations of treason. Soon, a swift plot frames Pilate as a usurper to Caesar’s throne, claiming he aspires to become the 'king of the Jews.'

Rome's response is brutal. Caesar, sensing a mutiny, orders Pilate's crucifixion—a brutal fate for traitors. Betrayed, Pilate endures a torturous march amidst the scorn of Jerusalem, once his spectacle to command, now his stage of torment, upholding the Empire's ruthless justice.
