An allele, short for 'allelomorph', is an alternative version of a specific gene.

This collection (which is in no way scientifically accurate), was born out of an exercise in simplicity. Outputs are made up of arrangements of squares in various compositions, yet within that we are free to imagine what they could mean. For some, the resulting shapes might represent DNA strands or atoms. Others might see cells or the building blocks of the hereditary instructions that shape us as individuals. 

A generative genetic report accompanies each output to spark the imagination and attempt to attach further meaning to each composition. Some gene sequences carry mutations, however not all mutations are visually apparent. Please refer to the fxhash features to view the reports accordingly.

Texture is used subtly, so for maximum enjoyment it is recommended that you save and view your outputs at full size in order to best enjoy the details.

'Tesseract' is a generative collection drawing on the concept of the cube from oneirology, the interpretation of dreams. In many mythologies and fields of study, the square is considered a 'perfect shape', thus with its abstraction into three isometric dimensions, the cube is seen by some as a representation of the various aspects of the human condition.

In 'Tesseract', the ribbons flowing between the cubes represent the shared experiences that connect us all. No matter how different our lives might be, we all go through the same joys, sorrows, trials, tribulations and experience attachments of varying degrees. 

It is these experiences that bind us together and make us who we are. With these concepts in mind, viewers are invited to interpret each composition as it relates to them and their unique story, from the perspective of that which has been and that which is yet to be experienced.

Inspired by the design work of Bauhaus textile artists such as Gunta Stölzl, Anni and Josef Albers, 'Lebras' combines the proportions of both the Silver and Golden Ratios (1.414:1 and 1.618:1 respectively) to create a versatile five-column grid, within which unique compositions are formed. 

As part of a semi-generative body of work, 'Rubicon' is a handmade remaster of a work-in-progress experimentation for the 'Lebras' collection.

Farfalle Motion uses a machine-learning model trained on symmetrical ink blot patterns to create fluid AI-generated morphing forms that seamlessly loop back on themselves. The piece is then split into three component color layers of overlapping symmetry, inviting the viewer's perceptions to seek and potentially find meaning within the resulting patterns.

This artwork presents a modified version of the algorithm used for 'Perpendicular Inhabitation'. 

Whereas palettes and color styles in the original algorithm were assigned or generated from a dominant stylized palette, here the colors are curated in line with the original concept of the collection.

The piece is generated by following a systematic approach to image construction, made by self-imposed restrictions on the canvas, relating to the use of the golden ratio, grids, and code-only techniques. 

This transforms simple geometry into a playful game where any perceived complexity in the detailing of the tower structures is the result of carefully choreographed repetition. 

It can also be observed as a cross-over or continuation of sorts with my previous project, ‘Tesseract’. Within each generative collection, I make attempts to allude to aesthetic elements from previous works, in order to ground them within the same ‘geometric universe’, albeit abstract.  A common question regarding that collection has been ‘where do the ribbons fall from Tesseract cubes?’. These outputs playfully attempt to answer this and connect the two bodies of work.

'Sabler : Serengeti' is a special edition reissue of the original Sabler generator in a vibrant 'Serengeti' palette which was omitted from the original collection. 

Towards the end of the production of the original Sabler collection, the creative decision was made to reduce the number of palettes from the thirteen that had been created to a smaller number, in order to improve the cohesiveness of the collection overall. While 'Serengeti' remained one of the stronger palettes, it was ultimately excluded in favour of the 'Annaliese' palette, in homage to an Anni Albers tapestry that originally inspired the 'Sabler' collection. 

Here, the 'Serengeti' palette is provided as a companion piece to the original Sabler collection to give collectors the opportunity to pair their output with their existing collection if they choose.

'Sabler', an anagram of 'Albers', is a generative homage to the work of the Bauhaus textile artist Anni Albers.

The aesthetic of this piece and its proportions are guided by the Golden Ratio (1.618 : 1) and as such, each part of the composition relates in some way to its larger self.

The story behind this collection is that there isn't really a story behind this collection. It is the result of play, tinkering, and curiosity.

One of the beautiful things about generative art is how we can achieve drastically different results simply by modifying a few parameters or lines of code. As my first release here on fxhash was 'Sabler', it felt fitting that my release for #fxhashturnsone would itself be a modified version of that 'Sabler' algorithm, albeit giving drastically different results.

It is notable for the fact that this is perhaps my most 'chaotic' collection yet, letting go of carefully considered proportions, angles and positioning and here leaving that in the hands of the computer. In a way, this simple act represents several design decisions I never would have imagined myself making a year ago, highlighting my growth as a generative artist over the past year.

It is also a reflection of the inspiration gained from many of the artists and boundary-pushers in the space that each time unlock and encourage creations beyond the immediate comfort zone. For that, this is a 'Thank You' to all of you.

With that, here's to many more years of generative beauty and inspiration on fxhash and beyond.

This generator is named 'Ichigo' (苺/ いちご), the Japanese word for 'strawberry'. 

Seeing each iteration from a suitable distance, small dots (to me, reminiscent of strawberry seeds) overlay different sequences of geometric repetitions, implying a sense of texture, grittiness and irregularity. 

By looking closer however, it becomes apparent to the viewer that the majority of the composition is in fact government by orderly elements, in this case grids of dots. 

This discovery invites the viewer to consider the output in front of them at different levels, near and far. At what point do you feel the dots begin to dissolve into a texture? When do you stop noticing the dots and instead begin to perceive the overall composition?

These questions are posed in a similar fashion as with meditation; at what point does something become something else? When does an in-breath become an out-breath and vice versa? 

Contemplation on simple questions like these can open a small portal into stillness and mindfulness by taking time to slowly observe our responses.

'Perpendicular Inhabitation' is a generative collection exploring the relationship between the urban landscape and the human experience, particularly feelings of nostalgia and more specifically 'anemoia' : the feeling of nostalgia for a time or place that we may not have actually experienced first hand. 

Despite depicting a stylised modern architectural language, at its core the collection serves as a homage to 1980s Japan, an era of unprecedented prosperity that left a lasting impression on the music and artwork of the time. Through the use of carefully created palettes and composition, the outputs intend to evoke feelings of optimism, while guiding viewers to consider why the essence of this era is so alluring in the present day as it continues to influence and inspire contemporary art.

The use of exaggerated perpendicular verticals, as well as the heavily foreshortened mountain ranges present in some outputs, convey a sense of hope and possibility for the future. What does it feel like to hope and dream in the city? To look up and be filled with a sense of wonder from the built environment around you?

This version of *Tekton* is a fully generative version of a previously released, non-generative capsule collection of ten pieces entitled *Tekton*.

The original intent behind the first collection was to explore the possibility of creating structures through the use of reuseable models, similar to playing with blocks of LEGO.

It also served as a feasibility test for a subsequent collection *Perpendicular Inhabitation*.

By experimenting with various massings and blocks through play with toy bricks, the process allowed the visialization of  the order in which code must be written and repeated in order to create a convincing illusion of a tower. As a result of play, a number of different rule sets and modules were created, however in the original *Tekton*, these were pre-drawn blocks that were assembled arbitrarily to form harmonious compositions.

Here, each block is given more latitude to bend its own rules allowing for the creation of structures that are entirely unpredictable.

Komšije,' a word meaning 'neighbors' in Serbian, is an art piece that intertwines architectural elements with the Golden Ratio (1:1.618). Inspired by the brutalist architecture of New Belgrade, Serbia, and my love for minimalism and modernism, this work explores the possibilities of this combination generatively.

The buildings of New Belgrade, a significant inspiration for this piece, exhibit a unique character. Despite their aesthetic, which may have fallen out of popular style, these structures are exceptionally solid and well-designed, having withstood the test of time. More than mere apartment blocks, they represent vertical ecosystems. Within their stark and imposing concrete forms exist a multitude of private worlds, each suspended in a communal yet distinct space, embodying the essence of interconnectedness and resilience.

The Golden Ratio, a recurring element in my creations, is a proportion frequently found in nature. It is visible in sea shell spirals and human body proportions, offering an aesthetically pleasing and comforting familiarity.

In 'Komšije,' this ratio arranges mostly residential architectural forms in elevation view, blending Mid-Century modernism, Japanese post-modernism, and Eastern European brutalism. The compositions are created by repeatedly dividing the width and height of each piece by the Golden Ratio, ensuring every element is proportionally related to the whole. This method aligns column widths and floor heights, maintaining a cohesive structure.

The artwork strikes a balance between formal architectural diagrams and hand-drawn sketches. It features generative imperfections that mimic my sketching style, fostering a sense of openness and possibility missing from formal or detailed diagrams and renders. Although the structures depicted may not be architecturally practical, they are designed to evoke a sense of wonder and joy through their playful geometry and massing.
