I present to you “The Eve of Freedom”: 31 stunning cards of SZN3 celebrated by an old-school slideshow (so that we may reminisce immediately) —

— but beware, for this is no ordinary retrospective:

First off, our title reflects a season full of drama yet deep introspection

Is it night before freedom, or the end of freedom? The decision is yours.

The art showcases a wealth of perspectives, rendered with love. Artists chose richness of detail, longer animation formats…

…inspiring a slower pacing, more time for artwork to breathe, and a multi-act score.

Music Postcards express my love for music, photography, and the written word — analog elements assembled into atmospheres, each one a microcosmic universe inviting the viewer to explore and ask questions.

I believe there is a calling for palpably human-crafted creations bottled on the blockchain. Indeed, NFTs are music postcards’ ideal medium: their video-ness requires display+sound technology yet they are compact, portable.

Travel Poems is a music project that began in the rainforests of Costa Rica. What started as soundtracks for people and places became a triple-album written and recorded across 4 continents, a live storytelling show, and a series of mobile art installations.

Music Postcards extend the ethos of Travel Poems, endeavoring to take listeners on journeys without and within.

You are currently viewing “Twilight Far”, a cinematic short featuring the astonishing artwork of all 33 Meme Artists from SZN4. Each Meme Card is juxtaposed with itself-in-the-context of an exhibition from the far future, framed by a simple premise: what does digital art look like in native and physical forms, viewed from the year 6068 CE?

If you’re interested in these Meme Cards as a slideshow front-and-center — without title and credits screens, but with some musical easter eggs on the playful side — the other varietal of this film might interest you. It’s called “Mostly Pointless” and can be found at https://app.manifold.xyz/c/mostly-pointless.

Indeed, which one you decide to mint is a selection of a path: a choose-your-own-adventure between two worlds that might look similar upon first glance, but differ wildly in trajectory — subtle details, at first, foreshadowing divergent futures. There shall be no possibility of return after both concurrent claims complete the public phase.

The music is also named “Twilight Far”, taken from track 9 of Travel Poems . Chapter 3 . There is no path back. This upcoming full-length album follows two existing albums (Travel Poems . Chapter 1 . Secret towns and Chapter 2 . The night sea) and will be released in 2024 worldwide. Here it’s featured as an exclusive track, and a forward-thought.

The title and the song’s soundscapes take inspiration from the ocean’s timelessness, a life lived underwater whether literally or in metaphor, and the company of friends.

Twilight Far

This short film tells a story involving memory, dreams, solitude, and the feeling of home.

It draws from solo travels around the Carpathian Mountains region from before I was found by a traveling caravan. Shot on location in Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia.

“Foot of the Carpathians” features photography and writing by Eric Pan, and is scored by the song of the same name. Heartfelt gratitude to Chris Marker’s “La Jetée”, Bhavna Shivayogimath, The Final Challenge, and Aneta.

The song comes from the wilderness. Olena and Marko found me aimless and wandering in Krakow, which somehow led, two days later, to an evening spent by the Western Carpathian mountains surrounded by a larger group of their friends. Guitars around a campfire, melodies sung into the night. After leaving them, I wrote the main theme in trying to capture the mood we’d found.

I forgot about the song until a year later, when it seemed a good idea to collect all the “postcard” songs composed during journeys afar. Many of the themes seemed to want to stay simple and untouched, but “Foot of the Carpathians” presented a deeper mystery. I felt it was worth trying to expand the track’s primary statement into a few different but related harmonies, and introduce it to Nir Sabag (drums) and Hugo Reydet (bass) with room for melodic and rhythmic improvisation. I hoped a trio in musical conversation would be fitting for a song born from a small gathering.

We, together with longtime production friends Virgil Segal and Brian Trahan, recorded the track at TRIXX Studios with Fabio Buemi. The soundscapes were meticulously scored later, the primary contributions here being recordings of a Tibetan singing bowl, made in Duisburg, tuned to the frequency of the asteroid Ceres.
