Ritual Vitality

We did not know of the existence of the Tolteka Mekas until the 40's, when a group of archaeologists discovered  the first one. This finding caused a lot of controversy in the academic environment of traditional archaeology, for them it was inconceivable that this technology existed for more than two thousand years.  
The first Meka was activated a year after its discovery with the help of a group of unionized electricians who did electrical connection work in the surrounding towns. From this first find, archaeologists began to find more and more Mekas buried within inches of the jungle’s surface. From medium Mekas to small toy Mekas that resembled monkeys or deities relevant to the ancient Toltecs.  
They immediately set about connecting and reactivating each of the new Mekas and the news of each of these findings caused excitement in the national and international press. The Mekas were immediately the sensation and people began to create their own Mekas, thus reactivating an ancient culture.

Teknochtitlán inhabitants have a long tradition of manufacturing, programming and coexistence with giant robots that assist them in various daily tasks such as waste collection and treatment, civil protection or light and sound for block parties.

TeknoChipilli is one of the best known and loved Mekas by the community of downtown Teknochtitlán. No one like him knows how to read the atmosphere of a party to set the scene with his light and sound, leading the public to ecstatic trances.

Inspired by the wisdom of Toltecáyotl: ancestral philosophy that guided the spirit of the ancient inhabitants of Anahuac (North America to Nicaragua) this collection explores the connection between the past and the future.

As modern-day Tlacuilos, we carry forward the ancient tradition of preserving and transmitting knowledge, but now through digital means. Just as our ancestors used codices to document history, religion, and laws, we use computers to create and store digital records that reflect the depth of our culture and beliefs. I have been exploring the figure of the Chac Mool for a while (you can check my Chic Chac Mool collection for reference).

Although some believe that these figures were used for human sacrifices and to deposit hearts, the attitude of the character shows a heart but in a more friendly gesture of offering love to those who look at it.

More protesters arrived, all equipped with analysis devices to assess the situation on the ground. It was then that the protest signs came out and the protest began. It is difficult to know the origin of the participants, the clothing to protect themselves from the cold makes it difficult to recognize race or gender in the photos found. This character is inspired by the Olmec heads, those monumental stone heads found in southern Mexico that are vestiges of the oldest culture  recorded in the region (3000 BC).  

This "Neo-Olmec" has a device in his hand and there are all kinds of things going on around him. I come from street art, this character is a good example of the murals I do, but in this case animation allows me to explore and show alternate dimensions that we cannot experience with our senses.

It is believed they served many different purposes, the one I prefer is their role as bridges between earth and other realms, liminal structures.

The Chac-Mool is a sculpture recurring in different Mesoamerican cultures. I recreate this figure, alluding to contemporary culture juxtaposing its sacred meanings with the fashion modeling aesthetics  and the frenzy of the dominant consumer culture.

The Chac-Mool is a type of sculpture recurring in different Mesoamerican cultures such as the Maya, Toltec and Mexica. It is always found in ritual contexts so it is undoubtedly related to the sacred and closely associated with the rain god Tlaloc. 

They have been found as a repository for offerings, hearts and even as a stone for human sacrifices.

 I have always been interested in this figure because of its shape and its role as an intermediary between the terrestrial and the sacred world. 

The artist Henry Moore was also very interested in these figures and probably was the most recurring influence on his work.  ‘it was the art of ancient Mexico that spoke to me most. I admit frankly that early Mexican art formed my views of carving as much as anything I could do.’ 

The “Chic-Chac-Mool” collection reinterprets this figure, through the use of animated collage. I seek to recreate the figure of chac Mool, alluding to contemporary culture through the word 'chic' and 'mool' that should be pronounced the same as the word 'mall'. 

 In this sense, the work juxtaposes the ritual and sacred meanings of this figure with the modeling aesthetics, the poses and the frenzy of the dominant consumer culture.

This relic witnesses the ceremonial use of neon masks by priests in the rites of passage in the great TeknoTitlán.
