1/1 by Burnish. Sunrise in Joshua Tree National Park in the Cholla Gardens. These cacti are beautiful but dangerous! Their spines are hooked and very difficult to get out of your skin. If you get too close to the plant, pieces very easily detach and embed themselves in you. I was out in the pitch dark amongst them before sunrise so you don't have to be!

This 3-layer reduction linocut of a shotgun house in New Orleans was hand-carved from a linoleum block and hand-printed in layers of ink over the course of about 20 hours of intense, detailed work. There are only 10 physical prints in existence and this is the only NFT that will be created of this work. This style of hand-carving and printing destroys the block during the process, so no further physical prints can be created. 

 Each mark visible on the work was carved by me with a sharp tool in a completely analog process, the only digital aspect was the scanning. Physical prints of this work were sold as a Hurricane Ida fundraiser earlier this year, and this NFT is a high-resolution scan of my personal print of the work.

New Orleans House #1 Hand-Carved Linocut (1/1)

1/1 photograph by Burnish, created for the project in October 2022 when I took a month off my dayjob and embarked on photographic adventures. Some were chosen by collectors, and others I funded myself. This image was created on a collector-funded "Coastal Forests" adventure to the Fitzgerald Marine Reserve in Half Moon Bay, CA. 

The branches on this tree are spread out in silhouette across the foggy sky like arteries in our body, or forks and tributaries of a river. I love these kinds of natural structures, as they're so similar across a wide range of objects. The bright green of the plant climbing up this tree is what drew my eye- it was a bright hello on an otherwise gloomy desaturated morning, and my gaze followed it up to discover the tree branches high above.

Heart of the Forest

Last Day's Sunset

"Trait Hunter" Photo 1. Traits: WINE COUNTRY and SUNRISE, selected by and created for ParraDeSys. ~~ My favorite sight in the Napa Valley at sunrise are the hot air balloons! Roaming around chasing the perfect sunrise spot, you turn down a backroad and there they are, ascending into the cold clear air. It was 35 degrees in early springtime, and the wild mustard was blooming bright yellow in the sunshine.

Wine Country / Sunrise

Northern Nevada. Beautiful, desolate, unnervingly quiet. If you stop along the road, the utter lack of sound presses on your ears. No humans for miles. It looks empty, but looking closer you see the jackrabbits, the sagebrush, the small hardy plants clinging to life awaiting the rain. There's a secret reservoir to swim in, cold and perfect. Did you bring your towel?

I grew up in Southern California, a grimy beach child with long wavy hair and little parental supervision. When I was exploring the Venice Beach Boardwalk with my camera, these two girls immediately caught my eye and made me wonder which option I would choose- cell phone, or perfect ice cream cone?

The Gift of Time Adventures

The trust that humans have in each other is incredible. This is a 340-ton boulder, suspended over a sunken walkway. The boulder was moved across Southern California, mainly at night, through 22 different cities, before coming to rest in Los Angeles. And now people can just stroll blithely beneath it on a gorgeous summer day, secure in the idea that it won't hurt them. Knowing that art and engineering and society is trustworthy and thoughtful enough to care for them so they can have this experience. Or, more interestingly, being so trusting that it doesn't even occur to them that it could be dangerous.
