When we show appreciation for others, especially in their craft, we deliver a much more powerful message than we realize. The human brain thrives on positive reinforcement, and when that energy is directed at making an impact on others, the world around us grows brighter. Simple acts of kindness help to drive emotional connections. No matter what negative outside forces may be at work, a positive one will always travel faster and further, allowing those in its path a moment to relax, soak in life, and be mellow... if only for a moment.

The world can be overwhelming at times. The psychological membrane designed for mental protection between the mind and our surroundings can easily wear thin. This is especially true in times of distress. When life becomes too great with feelings that overwhelm us, the walls begin to retract. Hearing fades, vision blurs, and breathing becomes labored. Teachers referred to me as a daydreamer who’s mind would drift, but I always cherished those moments. Eventually I leaned-in on these limitations, bringing me a life of deeper connections to people and my art.

So much of who we are is shaped in our early years of life. Our relationships, our dispositions, how we see the world... all of it entangled in the messy interactions that make up our personalities. This isn't to say that we won't continue to evolve, but that the understandings we develop early on can be formed with such strong conviction, oftentimes it's difficult to re-wire our brains to allow for new perspectives and a shedding of past negative thinking. This piece is self-reflexive as I explore the origins of my doubt. Raw energy rises to the surface, appearing as frenetic lines and shapes. Internalized emotions give chase before giving way to a meditative release and a deeper understanding of who I am. (Edition 1/1, 1920 x  1920 MP4.)

This is the second piece in a series entitled, “Fitting In.” I've always had a habit of overthinking things and getting into my head about what others think of me, my confidence, and insecurities. I've struggled to overcome these feeling and sometimes succeed, but those moments are always fleeting. What's likely nothing meaningful to others in a conversation will eat me up inside. While everyone around me moves on, I just sit inside my head and dwell.

Shape Shifters is ADAMTASTIC's first generative art project. Long fascinated with the desire to tell stories and convey emotions with as few elements as possible, Adam leans into people's natural tendency to perceive a specific, often meaningful image in random visual patterns. Each element was digitally hand painted and then assigned a random temporal position using code. Layer visibility was also randomized for on and off states. Hundreds of images were produced and then the artist poured over each output, curating a final batch of 300 unique 1/1's according to taste and an emotional response. The hope with this collection is for it to spread joy to those who seek it.
