1595 BCE...

The Babylonian Empire is in the final stages of war with the Hittites led by King Mursilis. The Amorite king of Babylon, knowing this was not a war his people could win, decided to save some of his culture's most revered relics. He chose to send a secret convoy deep into the Mesopotamian hinterland where such works of religious symbolism and art would be hidden and protected in caves and tunnels.

1878 CE...

St. John Pepys, Viscount of Hyndford exited the caravan and looked around. He could see nothing as as he looked out towards the horizon, yet his years of studying near east historical writings at the Bodleian libraries in Oxford told him this was nearby where the ancient city of Terqa once existed.

It was a rumor, a couple lines in a ledger from a fabrics trader, that led him on this mission. The trader wrote of a small group of travelers moving through the desert with many valuable items. He was able to trade some heavy woven clothes for beautiful silks he could only presume came from a noble house.

For three weeks Pepys and his hired team of natives dug the area looking for any trace of occupation, and treasure. Finally they made a discovery. At the foothills of a mountain one of the locals found a cave entrance primarily hidden by thorny brush and fallen rock.

Treasure. More ancient Mesopotamian art than had ever been discovered; and in an excellent state of preservation as well. The crown jewel, the Viscount determined, was a small fertility relic wrapped in silk and enclosed in a stone box.

Of course, this would all go to good Queen Vic, and make Pepys one of the most famous adventurers of the day.

1978 CE...

It was a great honor for Amelie Renaud, curator to a popular museum in Paris, to host the exhibit of Ancient Mesopotamian art on loan from the British Museum. She remembered seeing the Pepys (Pepe) Fertility Relic as a young girl on a school trip and fell in love with the art style of the region.

In another part of the city, Alexandre LeJeune was busy planning the most daring heist of his career. A gentleman thief, he only stole for the challenge. A fact corroborated by his small 1 bedroom apartment in the 19th arrondissement.

Anita stared at the letter and knew this was going to be an all-nighter. Hacking into a bank was not something she considered difficult, but she would normally use social engineering to get what was needed. Now that the offices are closed she will have to break in old school style.

She looked at the clock. 8pm. Time to start a pot of coffee. Her plush couch and open bottle of wine from the night before was calling to her, but Anita knew if she wanted to join the best women-led hacker activist organization in the world she couldn't fail this test.

Growing up in Ronda, Spain, birthplace of modern bullfighting, young Bosco had always dreamed of following his fathers footsteps and becoming a celebrated matador. However the path is strenuous and full of danger. On top of which, Bosco is not sure if he can come to terms with a signature aspect of being a matador; the killing of the bull.

As a novillero, or apprentice bullfighter, Bosco would train with his friends, who seemed to have no qualms about ending the life of these majestic creatures. And his differing opinion always made him feel a bit of an outsider.

As the time comes for Bosco's "Alternative" (the fight which turns him into a full fledged matador) he questions whether the dance and showmanship should be the focus of the corrida. And if so, is it possible to become a celebrated matador like his father without killing the bull.

Victoria is lonely. 250 days a year on the road, living out of a suitcase, makes it difficult to form those necessary human attachments. 

Such is the life of a traveling  consultant. 

In fact, the only person she considers close is George, one of her classmates from business school. They don't see each other. In fact the only way they converse is through letters - usually with some random 5 star hotel's letterhead. 

This has been happening for years and Victoria thinks she might be falling for her antipodean pen pal.

However the most recent letter from George was embossed with the name of a hotel not more than a mile away. It turns out they are both consulting for opposing companies on a multi-billion dollar merger.

Does this bring George and Victoria closer together?  
Or perhaps they realize they were never more than pen-friends...
