Pacific white-sided dolphins are very playful and energetic. These dolphins are often seen leaping, bow-riding, somersaulting, and even spinning in the air. They can jump as high as 20 feet in the air.

On a warm sunny African afternoon in Ngorongoro Crater, most of the animals have had their morning meal and are ready for a nice rest in the shade.

Being the kings and queens of all the animals, the lions have no problem lying right out in the open for a big sleep without a concern in the world.

But that doesn’t stop the inquisitive lion cubs from sitting up at the first noise to make sure they have each other's back.

What is the most beautiful campground in California? Now there’s a tough question! 

I’ve been to a lot of nice campgrounds since I became a nomad in 2011. But if I had to pick one, it might just be Belle Campground in Joshua Tree National Park.

I love being able to stumble out of the RV in the early morning hours and have spectacular scenery right on my doorstep.

Belle Joshua

Pacific white-sided dolphins are found in the cool waters of the North Pacific Ocean. The dolphins in this collection were all photographed on the coast of British Columbia, Canada.

As I approach the specially designed sea lion haul out dock in Newport, Oregon, I spot a number of California Sea Lions sleeping peacefully in the warm sun, all piled up together like a puppy pile, their bodies intertwined in a cozy and adorable heap. 

The sea lions appear undisturbed by the loud sounds of the nearby pier and seafood plants on the historic Bayfront. Then, suddenly, there's a change in atmosphere, and the peaceful slumber of the sea lions is disturbed by an approaching visitor. As another sea lion tries to climb on the dock, all the sea lions awaken abruptly, barking aggressively at the intruder. The once peaceful scene turns into a chaotic display of dominance, as the sea lions battle for space and access to the best sunbathing spot on the dock.

Once the ruckus is over, and everyone is comfy again, they all go back to dreaming of fish.

Right before this moment
There was nothing here
What can’t be seen when the wild in us goes missing

Connecting the forest to the sea
On a meadow of water appeared
A fantastical, wise blue heron with many selves

She smiled, cracked a joke, made a cackling grack!

Wild Cat - Wildlife Journeys Collection

It’s about the water.

The long dry season has left the land parched. The animals, thirsty and needing nourishment from the minerals that are only found here, have migrated back to the place where they know there is always water: Tarangire National Park, Tanzania.

At the height of the rainy season, the animals spread out over 20,000 square kilometers, but when the rains end they always return here, to the Tarangire River, the heart of the migration.

The park is over 2,600 square kilometers, but it’s only the sixth largest national park in Tanzania, where over 30% of the country has been set aside as a park or conservation area.

Tarangire is known for it’s large elephant population and I saw my first wild elephants when we were barely into the park. They not only drink the precious water, but they love to have a mud bath too!

During the peak season, the elephant population soars up to 3,000. But once the wet season begins, the elephants and other animals migrate outside the park onto the floor of the Rift Valley and the vast open Maasai Steppe.

In the Sierra Nevada mountain range in California, Convict Lake is named for a group of convicts who escaped and had a shoot out with the sheriff.

Thankfully there was no such ruckus on the morning I was there. It was the most peaceful and calm sunrise with a perfectly still reflection on the lake.

Some people thought I was crazy for giving up a good career. Others thought I was brave. For me, it felt like the only option that was right and good.

Pacific white-sided dolphins can dive underwater for more than 6 minutes to feed. They have small conical teeth that help them catch and hold on to their prey. Each tooth row contains 23 to 36 pairs of teeth. Instead of using their teeth to chew their food, dolphins use their teeth to grip food before swallowing it whole.

I love boating, and I love photography, so there’s nothing better than combining my passions by getting out on the water in my little boat and looking for some wildlife to photograph.

The days when I encounter Pacific White-Sided Dolphins are the unforgettable days. These are the days that I have stored away in my brain like precious jewels wrapped in blue velvet. On the bad days, when my mind wanders off and I start thinking that the world is full of only bad things, I bring out my memories and see them sparkle in the sun. I remember my “dolphin days” and know that the world is full of beautiful, wondrous and thrilling things too.

I love the ocean.

I love walking on the beach on a stormy day and feeling it’s fury.

I love being in my boat, riding the waves, and when the bow comes down a big splash hits me in the face and I can taste the salt on my lips.

I love jumping over the side into the water when it’s just a tad chilly and for a moment it takes your breath away.

I love skimming along the surface when the water is calm, especially at high tide, when the ocean feels like a big bubble.

I love the silence at sunset when people sit on the beach in awe and don’t dare speak for fear of breaking the glass.

I love it when the water melts into the sky and it’s hard to tell where the horizon is.

The Ocean in Motion collection was made using long exposure photography and intentional camera movement, panning while the shutter is open, to create abstract images that convey the energy, the beauty, and the dreamy feeling of the beach at sunset.
