Auriea Harvey’s mother/child, is derived from a 3d scan of the artist’s niece and her son, made as they slept in the backseat of a car during a road trip in 2016. It is the artist’s contemporary version of a pietà, in the spirit of Michelangelo's famous iteration, just a few blocks from the artist’s home. The artist captures a quiet and candid moment in the day of a young mother, capturing the joy and youthful exuberance via color choices and the use of the silk-like ribbons. Though the child represented in red symbolizes the heavy burden of parenthood, the duo relax into one another in peace and equilibrium.

Once thought to be authentic depictions of Fauna-Ram, normally unseen outside of ancient triumvirate groupings, recent scholarship has uncovered this to be a forgery. It is not known when these forgeries were made but they were unearthed atop what is believed to have been a workshop. It is thought that the craftsman were either capitalizing on myths surrounding Ram and Fauna by creating this hybrid, or perhaps there was a genuine sculpture after which these were copied. They are hand decorated and each is different, as can be seen by the layers of materials and imperfections. Paired with decorative bases, which were clearly made in the modern era to appeal to Victorian tastes, the Fauna-Ram forgeries are curiosities which raise more questions than answers about the importance these figures must hold for collectors both ancient and contemporary.

This small Cyclops, made of Egyptian faience, is believed to unlock a treasure. Researchers currently investigate the possibility because it was found alongside a map and a key. 

In 2019, Ten Cyclops sketches of this type appeared, made of simple plaster. What is presented here is the first made of precious material.

Larger Cyclops figures are also well known and are in collections worldwide.

Auriea Harvey’s The Mystery v5-dv2 (chroma) is a digital sculpture that serves as a talisman and a memento mori, a still-life from Western art history that is a reminder of both beauty and death. Discrete images within the work invite symbolic interpretation, for example, a skull (bone) or a rose (beauty). The composite image of the sculpture rotates across a chromatic landscape in a timeless manner, as if it is waiting to be activated. Harvey’s practice invites elements of self-portraiture, thereby inserting the face of an African-American woman into art historical narratives. This process creates new allegories of figuration, addressing sculpture in both a digital and social connotation.

The Mystery version 5 is in a series of sculptural explorations on the subject of mortality. Drawing from the tradition of Memento Mori, a theme popular in Baroque painting and sculpture. A skull, a face, a rose, a braid. Bone, nature, beauty, life, death. 

The Mystery v5-dv2 (chroma screen) is an interactive field of these elements, eternal, grinding,  looping, hypnotic  motion ticking timelessly away and unsettling color notes inviting reflection on these mysteries.

Through a diverse mixed-media practice, Auriea Harvey creates sculpture in dialog with artefact. The artist brings personal narratives and character development to her sculptures by making 3D scans from life. These scans mutate as they are re-sculpted and combined with others from her extensive library: models based on her own clay sculptures, works of imagination digitally sculpted, and scanned fragments encountered in museums. The Mystery version 5 is in a series of sculptural explorations on the subject of mortality. Drawing from the tradition of Memento Mori, a theme popular in Baroque painting and sculpture. A skull, a face, a rose, a braid. Bone, nature, beauty, life, death. The Mystery v5-dv2 (chroma stack) is a swirling, psychedelic totem nested within a custom HTML environment. Its looping, hypnotic meditation of infinite duration with motion ticking away time and unsettling color notes invites reflection on these mysteries.

Auriea Harvey’s practice exists in and between the real and virtual and *The Unanswered Question* situates both realms of existence on the same plane not as simulacrum, but as a suspension of disbelief. Scale plays an important role within the collapse of real and virtual as the artist manifests her digital compositions as an expansive scrollable landscape. Each work is a collage of polygonal models, derived from 3D scans and arranged into scenes using “kitbashing”, a technique from the practice of model-making that forms all parts into a whole and celebrates the simple lighting and highlights of each figure’s digital nature. This process offers the artist the opportunity to interject her personal sculptures into classical narratives.

Layered amongst *The Sacrifice* are scans of the outside walls of Rome’s Ara Pacis Augustae and a sacrificial bull from the Parthenon marbles alongside her digital sculptures *Minomirror (canceled)* and *The Mystery v3*.
