"This project is a playful attempt at abstractly capturing the flowing movement of a fountain using precisely drawn elements that evoke a static and considered rendering of a subject that is in constant flux. The visual language is reminiscent of hand-draughted technical drawing, a precise and methodical practice that progresses at a radically different pace to the flowing and capricious movement of water. To increase this tension between dynamic motion and static mechanical process I wanted the surface textures to appear worn and aged like a drawing that has spent its life in the bottom of a mechanics drawer. This process of abrasion and discoloration is occurring on yet another scale of time adding complexity to the references of time passing. Woven into the very fabric of Fontana is a fully generative solution for creating color expression. This means there is no reliance on preset palettes with every output being an entirely unique color articulation of the color story I want the project to reveal as a whole. Far from being random I attempted to create an approach which produces colors that evoke early 20th Century art and design media. With this intention I wanted outputs to look like they could be working drawing artifacts from this period of time." - Harvey Rayner

Each Fontana has a "source" from which the shapes radially emerge, similar to a Fountain (for which Fontana is named).
When the Composition is Adjacent, there are two sources opposing each other in the piece, creating a rift where their radial elements meet.
With the Single Composition, a single source centralized to the piece emerges.
The Free Composition results in any possibility, and the source is often not central to the piece.
The Cascade composition has 3 sources that overlap and create brilliantly busy outputs.
In Fontana, Harvey masterfully ensured each piece is framed properly through Containment. Anytime a ray of shape or color hits an edge that is "contained" it gets removed, thus only leaving arcs of the sources that didn't go "too far."
With Hermetic containment, all 4 sides of the piece have this effect. With Horizontal containment the top and bottom are contained, and with Vertical containment the left and right are contained.
Pieces without any containment are actually the most abundant, and bring a range of colors and shapes since none of the rays are removed.
Flow potential dictates the density of shapes and colors in the piece. The algorithm infuses randomness throughout the generation of an image, so even a low flow potential could compound into a busy appearing piece, but generally the lower the flow potential the more simple the pieces appear.
Over painting refers to a washing over effect that adds a haze to pieces that have a higher over painting rating.
