Inspired by 90s ROM cartridges, server farms and future cityscapes this project explores perception and documentation of ‘order’ within complex systems.
An Iso view is created when agent paths are constrained to snap to 45° increments instead of the more common 90° increments. This produces compositions which feature diagonal (isometric-like) elements instead of more orthographic-like compositions.
"Extra Neat: true" means that the agent paths have experienced less distortion, and therefore the compositions are often less chaotic, can feel slightly flatter and generally appear more orderly.
The first glitch adds vertical vibration during the line plotting process. This exaggerated glitch is intended to create greater areas of fragility that breakdown under scrutiny.

Rare Combinations of Features
Impressions of Order #296
The only Maximum Complexity output that has any glitch or rare feature combination. There are only 8 Maximum Complexity and 14 Line Direction: Mostly X and Dots.

Features Overview
Impressions of Order #151
View: Iso / Glitch 2: Oversize: True
Iso outputs are rare, only 27 in the collection. And the Oversize Glitch is even more rare with only 4. Even more interesting about this iteration is all Oversized have the Vibration glitch unless... it's an Iso view. That means this piece was a highly improbable outcome of the algorithm.

Impressions of Order #21
Glitch 1: Vibration / Glitch 2: Oversize: True / Glitch 3: Loose Lines
Having all 3 Glitches makes this is the most rare iteration of the collection. While an Oversized Ortho view will always have the vibration glitch, the addition on a Loose Lines glitch is an extra special.

Like any great generative art collection some of the best and most aesthetically pleasing outputs are not derived through the combination of rare features but just the algorithm doing it's thing and little bits of wonder emerging.
Aesthetic Favorites
#259
#187
Personally some of my favorite iterations in the collection are ones that go from a maximum complexity feel to a low complexity feel from bottom to top or vice versa. I'd say #259 (left) is the most striking example of this. Whereas #187 (right) almost has a little touch of Oversize Glitch at the bottom with thick red and pink short vertical lines.
#235 always makes me think of a cityscape but of a town stacked on top of itself. With the busyness of fast moving transportation on the bottom and the high and stoic building at the top.

The third glitch introduces the potential for curved elements to emerge. This is done by adding a small operation to "smooth" the distorted agent paths before they are cleaned and sent to the scanline fill method.
All feature descriptions are taken from the article written by Nbswwit
The second low-probability glitch creates larger "oversized" lines and dots. These pieces are quite fun as they bring more of the lower-level details to the fore.

The idea here is not only to highlight the rarity of these iterations but the interesting ways that these uncommon features interact with one another.
The above triptych is a favorite pairing of the collection. Soon after mint Nbswwit shared #144 and #46 as a diptych. While creating this gallery I took the liberty of adding #81 to the mix. ( From left to right #144 - DocSciFi - #46 - Jwphase - #81 -Rn9ce )
The only 2 outputs in the collection with both Iso view and Line Direction: Mostly Y. At the time I didn't really have a full appreciation of how lucky I was to mint these.
These are both so eye-catching but in completely different ways. #39 may be most wild output, just throwing line arounds in almost a swirl. #111 has areas of extreme uniformity as well as its fair share of disorder in the corners.
Such an interesting out as on the surface it can seem so orderly. But at closer inspection the Loose Lines Glitch adds a touch of roughness that contrasts the vertical lines nicely.
An extremely unique output and the only Low Complexity with any glitch. Not only does it have a wonderful shakiness to lines, of the 5 Low complexity outputs, 3 have this color palette but this is the only one absent of red, giving it that monochromatic feel.
The tapering of the vertical lines in both #221 and #5 below are some of the most striking pieces in the collection. And #245 has that bit of je ne sais quoi that makes it appeal somewhat hard to describe but it also gives off that packed cityscape feel but this time with the skyscrapers at the lower part of the work.
One of the most bold juxtapositions of features these 4 outputs always jump out when exploring the collection.
This is my favorite output and I feel truly grateful to own it. While I had a handful of iterations in my collection before, this is the work that sent me deep down the exploration rabbit hole. And if you haven't guessed reading through this guide, I've been so thoroughly enjoying the journey.
You really get the ROM cartridge inspiration in this piece with some of the golds and grays feeling almost metallic and the loose lines feature wrapping some of the lines in different places.
The push and pull of these two features can be seen in different ways in each out of the only 4 of this combination.
I think it's the 'Mostly X' aspect of the Mostly X and Dots feature combined with the vibration glitch that makes these 2 uniques pieces stand out so much with those bold horizontal vibrated lines. Then looking closer you see the small dense sections of lines adding further to appeal of each of these pieces.
Only 2 of this combination and both so nice in their own ways. Interestingly, all oversized glitch pieces have vibration too so that gives #30 a possibly overlooked singularness. Whereas #21 is overtly singular. Both in the hands of the collections top holder, the one and only Didi.
