This poem was originally written from a place of loss and longing. But for me, it still resonates now that I find have found lasting love and a sense of belonging. I wonder what emotional souvenir you will take from it - and whether you feel that the artwork accentuates the words, or if you think that poems should stand on their own, stark black ink against white backgrounds?

He was one of the first artists that I collected on both ETH and Tezos... I consider his "Degenaissance" and "Invitation to Kindness" (aka "$LIT Riders") to be iconic. Likewise, I think that "Falling Federation" is a masterpiece.

Thus it is fitting that he receives my first humble tribute - inspired particularly by his release of "JayDee & The Degens" during the bear market of 2022 - showing that it's not about the market - it's about the art, the artist, and the community.

Tribute to a Cryptoratist

This is a tribute to one of my favorite $LITizens – CryptoStatuette. 

Throughout history, there have been many goddesses, and many statuettes in their honor. Some of those statuettes were sculpted in ceramic; some remain hidden, but others have been found by archaeologists.

Thus, my tribute takes the form of a statuette of a literal goddess of the $LITiverse - who also happens to be a ceramic sculptor, and an archaeologist. Oh, and did I mention she’s also a cryptoartist?

We bonded early on over a mutual love of a Pixel Pirate girl (a story for another time) and over the last months, I’ve watched her take on the role of unofficial leader of fun and friendship in the Discord.

Yes, she’s since risen to more official positions, but she’s retained the spirit of camaraderie and community building… and it was due to her #LITSupportLIT event that I finally got around to creating my first NFT project, so I really do owe her a debt of gratitude. She was also one of the first collector of my genesis project, "Lethargica" which really meant a lot to me!

Plus, it was a lot of fun creating this piece… and fun is what she’s all about.

NOTE: “Arts & Poetry” was conceived as a cross-chain project – and Volume One was first released in an edition of 121 copies on the Polygon blockchain in December 2022 through the “Readl” platform, because it was the only place that had (at the time and to our knowledge) a simple method for organically splitting creator payments across 20 wallets.

Subsequently, we determined that this can also be done using “Objkt” which allows us to bring the project to Tezos – one of our favorite chains for sharing poetry and art.

Future editions will be released simultaneously (and at similar price points) on Polygon and Tezos – and we will look to bring on support for Solana, Cardano, and Ethereum in the future.

This is a Tribute

This is my first AI piece.

I'm a writer, by trade - but I do love the visual arts as well, and have always done my own book covers.

As I got ready to bring my books onto the blockchain as NFTs, I thought about trying my hand at using AI to reimagine the cover art for my short story "Happily Ever After".

The story gives the "wicked queen" from our favorite fairy tales a chance to tell her side of the stories...

Now, I'm not the only person who has reimagined the "wicked queen" - one of my favorite authors, Neil Gaiman wrote a very different short story that had the same starting point, but quite a different ending. His story was titled "Snow Glass Apples," and when I put my original cover art into the NightCafe AI software, and entered prompts which included "Mirror wicked apple glow sinister ethereal fantasy mist," this is what resulted.

It was the colors of my original cover, with the landscape transformed into ice and snow, with the Queen's purple robes and jewelry swirled into a Fabergesque apple.

So, I decided to name it "Snow Glass Apple" in homage to Neil Gaiman's story, and decided to share it as my first 1-of-1 rather than using it as a book cover.

Featuring voices from around the world – Africa, the Americas, Europe and Australia – this is a unique literary NFT which engages the eyes and ears, the heart and mind. 

Because this is an interactive token, I recommend activating “advanced mode” in the Objkt interface to enjoy all its functionality – and to turn up your volume, since one of the pieces enhances the words and visuals of the poet’s work with sound.

A key feature of this piece that I wanted to highlight is that every contributor receives an equal share of all sales – 1/20th of the initial sale price and the secondary royalties. This is a much more equitable approach than that of traditional journals – and an example of the way that NFTs can improve collaborative, cooperative approaches to valuing the work of poets, artists, and other creatives!

It is also a cross-chain project – there will be copies on the Polygon blockchain through the “Readl” platform, which (like Objkt) features a simple method for organically splitting creator payments across 20 wallets.

Future volumes will be released simultaneously (and at similar price points) on Polygon and Tezos – and we will look to bring on support for Solana, Cardano, and Ethereum in the future, in order to promote the spread of poetry and art in a way that allows collectors to connect with art regardless of which blockchain they prefer.

The emu is a cultural icon in Australia – and has been since ancient times.

One of the most interesting things about this species is that the male emu incubates the eggs and cares for the young. These great fathers of the animal kingdom will spend two months sitting on the eggs, without eating or drinking.

When the chicks hatch, their father will parent them for the next six months, guarding them from predators and warming them at night.
I encountered this emu and his chicks on near Shark Bay in Western Australia.

This NFT edition is dedicated to all the great fathers out there – and especially my brothers, Richard and Joe, along with my father-in-law, Alan.
