# What is this?

This is 6942 characters of highly experimental code.

This is a version of my rayhatcher framework (see https://www.fxhash.xyz/article/rayhatching-evolution) that can do literally everything. Or, at least anything you can do within 512 characters of Javascript code. Which is slightly more than a mortal brain can comprehend.

This is my answer to the question: What is the least restrictive set of parameters for fx(params)?

# Should I be minting this?

Depends if you know and like building SDF formulas. Otherwise probably not. Like I said, this is highly experimental code. But it's definitely worth checking the collection and/or secondary for cool stuff that is already minted.

# How does it work?

The minter designs an SDF (Signed Distance Function) which is rendered using my rayhatcher algorithm. They then use the SDF formula in the SDF Code parameter. It's not very complicated, just efficient.

You can press "h" to load the documentation and read about how everything works. Or you can press "d" to read the dev docs. 

# Anything else?

Don't forget that the "Title Seed" param also becomes the "Title" feature of the mint, so make it count.

Playing around with my 'soft' 3D engine. Vanilla Javascript.
The palettes are generative as well.

The work renders in steps; to preserve the fps, so it also can run on slower and older computers/phones. I just hope!

Not using any web-GL, shaders / graphic-chip; 
Love the total pixel-control ^__^ 

In the past, I created generative (interactive) visuals for the web; in vrml, java-applets, flash-actionscript, shockwave director 3D; etc. oh well.. ><
I guess for us creative coders it would be nice, there will be a programming environment; that still will run the works 100 years from now. 
Although the nice thing with fxhash, the source is on the blockchain; so I guess it can be easier rewritten/updated/upscaled/emulated in the future.

I posted on twitter a quick tutorial, how to back-up works from fxhash/ipfs; for stand-alone/off-line viewing. It's pretty easy then as well, to change the resolution; although you have to change the code then. If you have any questions, let me know.

I started to play around with a point-cloud 3D models and like Z-buffering, had some nice ideas. Made some point-cloud models. Then this bottle came around.

It's quick, raw sketch made today, not fancy, dark. And not optimized at all. 
But I felt, it's done.

From a young age, 
I was exploring the fields around my parents house.

In the early spring. 
after the winter rains; 
and before the farmers would plant new crops.

Looking for fossils, 
old broken pottery with nice designs 
and stone artefacts.

One day I found a Neanderthal stone-axe, 
estimated like 70.000 years old,
wondered about the person that created it, 
how they lived and loved.

and having like an army of little robots

Seen it in the past, whenever a group comes together.
Graffiti scene / Demo scene / Art scene etc. etc. 
New rules start popping up,
you should do this, you should do that..
Can't do this do this, you should not do that.
New rules, that can hinder you. 
If you start conforming/obeying the rules

Like seen people, making lovely works,
'but it should have more variations'
Adding all kinds of extras, 
that only made the work 
less powerful in the end

Or loosing themselves 
in the small details

Making 100 great and lovely sketches,
and finally releasing a work 
that totally did not work or sell at all.

Such a shame.

For example, look at the Mark's Smoll-skulls or like Casey Reas works,
or like 100 warhol soup-cans, all just a littlebit different

I knew a classic composer, 
that really enjoyed creating works
when he was young.
Became a teacher,
conform within the institution
And lost all the joy he had for composing,
due to pressure and rules 'how things should be done'


Don't post too much

Some people like to work on 1 painting for years
trying to create their own Mona Lisa.

While Vincent van Gogh would paint lightning fast,
sometimes doing 1 painting a day

A 'simple' p5 tutorial for you creative coders

Latest changes;
- a cleaned up, small-basic example now.

- template examples split into different .js for better overview, tech-window-handling / and your animation & drawing

While working on this template sketch, and was checking Reas xxx-metaKelly tribute, then next checking out Ellsworth Kelly's work like https://ellsworthkelly.org/work/seine/  And got awe and inspiration from that, moved on from there.

Fine-tuning until you start making screenshots;  then make a new backup-version number!

Mostly I start with a clean template; that handles the screen,  windows, and interaction.
Then add: copy-paste routines into it. Things I want to use; sprites, text-font, filters, lines, 3D etc.
Like kinda lego blocks. Some routines I re-use for 30 years now.
Although often they have changed over time.


Handles all the windows, mouse-touch interaction, animation-drawing in a kind of fast and smooth way. (I hope)

Why vanilla javascript? Pro's / Con's

cons:
- can be overwhelming for starting coders compared to p5js
- you have to write, use, find and tinker with new drawing routines by yourself. 
- still can be optimized a lot, and run much faster

- I'm more an Artist than a coder, still learning new things as well.
- I have my own 'old' coding style I picked up ages ago, and still use now and then.
- Just coded it in Notepad++ and tested it in a browser.
- for sure there are still some stupid bugs, spelling errors in it  ^___^
- No 'how-to' 'easy' (video) tutorials on it yet.



pro's:
- direct control of the Screen RGB buffer; every pixel.
- shaders / webgl etc. Are fast; but in the end just pixels?. And might not work 10+ years from now. Or show different in certain browsers.
- Slow drawing, but your own routines make it more unique, compared with 'out of the box' routines.

- do like 4096 x 4096 images on safari; tested and runs fast and smooth like on an old Iphone5
- just 1 index.html now - small file size
- I added some basic routines, like drawing points, lines. More drawz_snippets in the near future 
- draw, add-mix or subtract - manipulate every pixel how you wish
- I work with a big off-screen kind of image; a rgb-buffer; so drawing goes 'mucho' faster and render it to a screen-scaled image.
- no other libraries used
- runs smooth, without window freezes. Focused on fps; I can have like 10 tabs open without a problem

Mostly I start with a clean template; 
then add: copy-paste routines into it. Things I want to use; sprites, text-font, filters, lines, 3D etc. 
Like kinda lego blocks. Some routines I re-use for 30 years now. 
Although often they have changed over time.

- can be overwhelming for starting coders compared to p5js
- you have to write / use and tinker with new drawing routines by yourself. 
- still can be optimized a lot, and run much faster
-- (feel free to do that! - release new versions yourself)
- I just coded it in Notepad++ and tested it in a browser.
- I have no experience with git-hub, or those other nifty tools
- I'm more an Artist than a coder, still learning new things as well.
- I have my own 'old' coding style I picked up ages ago, and still use now and then. Started with basic and Z80a as a teenager.
- for sure there are still some stupid bugs, spelling errors in it  ^___^

pros:
- fxtemplate - fxpreview when done drawing / splash-screen support on top; while drawing.

But the palette, and composition & structure build-up; is mine. 
Don't change just 1 or 2 -things then re-release it.

If you want to release something of your own,
your sketch and generative work; really should look total different!
You can use the technics to draw new things,
but you have to start from scratch again; 
choosing points, lines etc. to play with and go from there.

Hope you are ok.

I've been busy, doing ok. 
Autumn with some nice warmer days 
trees and leaves in colors

cycling / working 
I was on a ferry-boat this late afternoon,
amsterdam-north to the center
and some great clouds. colors and lightning 
when the sun went down

and sketching this week ^___^

playing with letters, calligraphy

had a big pile of words for a conceptual work

in the past, I used the source of a program
also for the visuals-text output on the screen
and now was thinking, using this concept text next, 
to create- (de)construct a 2D/3D world with it.

But man. words are so 'touchy' and triggering sometimes,
so deleted all offensive, negative, mood-triggering, distracting words, heh..
until I had some fine lorum-like shizzle to work with.


also wanted to make like a kind of 
digital (jungle) zen garden  -____-

was playing around in 
my 2D 3D sketch zen space


I wanted to do something with leaves,
that quickly turned into like a flock of birds

then also start using older 3D to 2D calculations
that turned into a kind of rail road - metro stop
then I thought that's a nice stop!


If we would ever encounter aliens
what kind of 'universal' language would we use
or would they use? 

Recently saw something on tv, - at a friends house
like these alien-shows on cable tv;
humans were ignored by this star-trek federation,
because we were 'not ready'.

Well I like to party at this cool planet in terra-omega-apha-yes-apha-whatever, 
with some nice nebula's around.
I have some cool 'earthy' dancin moves,  and can show some funky letters.
but  our 'leaders' messed up, making a big shit of this planet.
 
Now we are all universal outcasts.. 
lol. sos from earth. please help us keeping-make this 'a great universal paradise'! We have lovely nature, art, great music and dancing!

- vanilla javascript - a 'rgb+a' pixel engine - the work is 1 html file
- 'pure software' 2D - 3D drawing, 100% pixels baby!
- no webgl or shaders used
- Image composition - check; used some old 8x8 pixelfont/data of mine, no images are loaded
- Animated - builds up, cross between animation and still
- Interactive - mouseclick - you can zoom-in out with mouse (touch-phone is still messy somehow)
- s-key saves image, and also the top alpha image
- space - hide-show the top alpha layer-animation
- redraws after some time, because it's like a movie ticket.

The way of the pixel

I'm working on an article about creative coding; 'comtemplate'
where you can find more information.
And in this example I started to use like 'particles' and arrays.

The current drawing is also like a seamless texture - pattern
The current palette's are random generated.

I created a fxhash vanilla javascript template that does all the 'tech-stuff'
like: opening windows, resizing, fps-counter, mouse, touch and keyboard checking, saving etc.
Then started with basic examples, how to draw stuff. 


- mouse-click: - zoom in/out ; mouse/touch-look
- s-key: save image
- f-key: fps and RGB info
- will redraw after a while

- royalties to 'girls who code'

You can use my template, as a start to make your own drawings
- You can use and learn from the tech part
- the creative part, drawing, and the 'rules'.. you got make up yourself!


Myself I like vanilla javascript for creative coding
- The creative-code part I can port to other platforms!
- Although: I got a certain programming style, I use and learned from way-back
- and there are different ways to do things better, optimize, make them faster
