Memories of Qilin is inspired by tradtional East Asian art - It channels the sense of movement and fluidity found in the region's classical paintings, while drawing from the colors, patterns, and forms of woodblock - My goal is to select pieces that immediately stick out and resemble something, starting with the "Roaring Lion"
The algorithm produces organic shapes that may resemble mythological imagery of dragons, phoenixes, flowers, mountains, feathers, birds or sea creatures
Each palette consists of roughly ten different patterns with different colors - some patterns are more suited for backgrounds, some patterns have little icons and emblems that enrich the palette theme
Main trait distinctions are based on the composition type and the complexity - the complexity can be low, medium or high
There are three special compositions - "Focal" triggers low complexity and lets the shape seem to start in the middle of the canvas while never touching the frame
"Flock" is very rare, triggers high complexity and delivers very dynamic outputs, throughout the whole canvas, seemingly flowing in many different directions and showing narrow flows like swirls
"Offset" is less dynamic than "Flock", but also creates dynamic backgrounds and wild shapes, usually spreading across the whole canvas
"Sweep" is the standard composition type and can trigger each complexity - it is a wider version of "Focal", mostly touches the frame, has calm patterns selected for the background and seems to flow from a limited amount of directions
"Splotches" are a special trait, randomly distributed to support a vintage feel and make it look like a painter spilled some water on the paper
