This mint comes from a study on combining layered geometric shapes using a limited color pallet. Each generation uses a single five-color pallet and various forms to build the final image.

"Fuschia Rubious Selenium" is a study of layered gradients and mask usage in p5js. There are two types of generation; controlled/contained and out-of-control. Controlled generations force shapes to be contained inside a margin around the canvas. The out-of-control generations allow the forms to escape the confinement of the canvas and include some other surprises.

"Fermium Platinum Pipes" is a project studying isometric shapes, allowing them to weave themselves together. Each section of the pipes is permitted to travel in any cardinal or ordinal direction. In addition, the length and size are determined by random numbers terminating at a margin.

- Landscape 50% probability
- Portrait 50% probability

2. Color Palettes:
The color pallets are based on the top colors on ColourLovers.com. Each adjacent color in the pallet is tweened five levels to add more variety—all equally probable. See https://github.com/Jam3/nice-color-palettes for more info.

3. Cells
The sketch has an underlying grid, which determines the elements' tightness, looseness, and placement.

4. Density:
It is used as a constant random value from fxrand() for building several internal elements.

"Rolling Hills at Sundown" is a project inspired by a road trip to the Southwest United States my family made this summer. We made stops at around 15 national parks, each with different rock formations, from the peaks of the Rocky Mountains to the depths of the Grand Canyon. The last park we stopped at was White Sands National Park in New Mexico. The rolling dunes seemed to go on forever, and the sand was so fine that you could slide down the dunes like snow.

"Sub Section Patina" is inspired by street art and the marks and layering from that art form. If you zoom in on a small section of a wall that artists have marked, sprayed paint, and plastered with posters, some beautiful effects start to happen.

While the "Sub Section Patina" layers are building up, there is a tendency to destroy the layers below. The layering is similar to a wall many street artists have contributed. Sometimes just a section will be covered and filled with something else. Sometimes large areas of the canvas are covered up. Other layers will be put on top of one another, creating a new chaotic image.

"Fast Food Wall Art Simulation" is created from many hidden circular drawings. 

I placed each drawing in a different hidden canvas and read its pixel values to approximate the texture of the circles. Technically that makes this an Image composition, but the images are never shown on the canvas.

I played around with different ways the circles could be overlapped. Differing opacity, blend modes, and pixel skipping were used to create some interesting textures.

In my testing, many of the renders, especially the more earth-tone ones, reminded me of art used in fast food restaurants in the 90s when I was growing up.

"Unfamiliar Directions" is my submission for #fxhashturnsone. This project is a study of grid walking and avoidance. While working on this p5.js sketch, the renders looked like a combination of circuits and chips on an electronic board (two of the main functions being 'circuit' and 'chip.'). The more I played with it in fx(stdio), the more it started to resemble maps and directions given by a mapping app on my phone. Some paths seem straightforward, from point A to point B. Other times, the directions weave right through buildings and seem to end at about the same place as the start.

This project is part of several experiments combining individual hand-drawn "squiggles" and turning them into something unexpected. This project is an evolution of a few of my previous projects, such as "Teal Iron Elaphrosaurus," "Mercury Phosphorus Lily," "Late Night Sketches," and "Late Night Sketches II."

The assets used in this project were hand-drawn with markers, pens, and ink. I will sit down for several hours and draw pages of elements in one of my sketchbooks. I then scan the drawings and separate them into transparent png files in Photoshop. Then the p5.js sketch takes those images and places them according to a grid according to the project features.

There are 483 individually drawn "squiggles" for the p5.js sketch to pick from to build up the final image. Please be patient (the 'Done rendering!' comment in the browser console is all-clear), as some renders may take longer than others. I made all the drawings for this project from December 2022 through the project creation date. This project is tested in Google Chrome using the fx(stdio) framework.

This project is an exploration of patterns, fills, and masks. Each mint takes a simple pallet, usually five colors, and various fills and patterns to create the scene. 

Params

Pallet: Pallet section from the top 200 pallets on ColourLovers.com

Custom Pallet:  Use your pallet with a list of hex values separated by commas. At least two are required to use a custom pallet. For instance, "00aeef,ec008c,fff200,060008" for CMYK.

Minimum Scale: Determines the smallest size an element can be created.

Maximum Scale: Determines the largest size an element can be created.

Maximum Tries: Determines the number of times an open space will be looked for before drawing anything. The higher number, the more densely packed the elements will be.

Orb Chance: Chance for an orb to be created instead of a mound.

Granulate: The amount of granulation texture applied to the final image.

Dip To: Color to fade to when selecting a softened footer.

Shading: Adds shading to elements that are only filled with a gradient

Soften Footer: fade the bottom of the elements into one of the colors in the "Dip To" drop-down.

I begin by selecting a point to initiate a solitary shape, gradually expanding outward by incorporating densely arranged lines. The unintentional wavering of my hand while sketching imparts a distinct characteristic to the artwork, as the lines appear to oscillate and ripple gently. This accidental feature infuses an organic feel into the piece, enlivening the otherwise fixed shapes. Additional forms are progressively incorporated until the entire page is occupied, and the composition achieves a sense of equilibrium.

The image consists of closely arranged vertical lines. The slight wobbliness of my hand while drawing caused the strokes to sway and undulate, producing a mesmerizing effect that can be entirely absorbing. I often lose myself in the process and become wholly engrossed in the drawing until I finish it.

"Pixel Paradigm" is a generative art project that merges the distinctive 4-bit aesthetics of the late '70s to early '80s video games with modern algorithms. It breathes life into simplistic, pixelated elements, transforming them into complex, ever-evolving patterns that pay homage to the vintage arcade era while exploring the limitless potential of generative art.

Density: determines the number of characters that are built.

Deviation: Sets a distortion range for each character.

Buffer: Amount of margin to give to each character in its cell.

Pallet: Pallet section from the top 100 pallets on ColourLovers.com

Custom Pallet: Use your pallet with a list of hex values separated by commas. At least two are required to use a custom pallet. For instance, "00aeef,ec008c,fff200,060008" for CMYK.

Dust: Add some dust to the overall output. Set it to 0 to turn it off.

Scratches: Add some scratch texture to the overall output. Set it to 0 to turn it off.

Banding: The density of any gradient used. The higher the value, the less smooth the gradients.

What is Chaos? It can be something different from person to person. One might think it’s random acts, and others might think it’s uncontrollable forces. I feel like Chaos is unruly, surprising, and destructive. 

Then what is Ordo (Order) then? Ordo is structured and controlling. Ordo tries to take Chaos and wrap it up in a box with a bow. It tries to control the uncontrollable.

That is the basis of thought when I started building Ordo versus Chaos. The chaotic structures are based on waveforms and gradients. Some waves are smooth, while others are jagged and saw-like. The chaotic systems unapologetically destroy elements written to the canvas before them. They will sway in a seemingly soft wave and suddenly change directions. Overlapping waves can leave moiré patterns behind as it travels along.

The Ordo comes from trying to contain the Chaos in repeating patterns. Chaos’s diagonal, vertical, and horizontal sections are mirrored to include the waveforms in a specific area. Chaos is still destructive, but it’s contained and orderly.

Ordo versus Chaos is built with p5.js with the help of (fx)lens to test variations.

 The Feral Overlord emerges in the heart of the Whispering Woods, where shadows flicker and the air hums with untold secrets. This cat-like behemoth, rendered in the stark lines and vibrant palette of 16-bit fantasy, bears claws and fangs that recount tales of many a vanquished wanderer. Its eyes, glowing with a predatory fire, surveil its domain with an air of untamed sovereignty. To challenge this creature is to challenge the wild itself. The key to triumph lies in the Amulet of Serenity, a charm that soothes the savage spirit, calming the beast to reveal the path forward through the thicket of danger and darkness.

"Miniboses" offers a 16-bit menagerie from cuddly pixels to digital dread, a retro journey of charming minibosses to halt your progress and give you pixelated nightmares.

Under the luminous glow of a full moon, perched upon the ancient stone bridge of the Sakura Shrine, stands the formidable Yamato no Orochi. Adorned with the regal attire of a shogun, each of its eight arms wields a blade forged in the sacred fires of Mount Fuji, their edges gleaming with an otherworldly sharpness. Its hair flows like the silken threads of destiny, each strand resonating with ancestors' whispers. The air is perfumed with cherry blossoms, starkly contrasting the palpable tension that binds the scene. To face this mythic warrior is to dance with history itself. The one weapon fabled to best Yamato is the Celestial Bow, strung with a strand of the cosmic weave, capable of losing arrows that cleave spirit from flesh.
