This artwork represents change and the role I play within it. 
My mindset during a phase of my life when era's are ending, new chapters are beginning and my navigation and response through the accompanying upheaval. 
A meditation amidst the unstoppable forward motion of life and inevitable changes, trying to keep an open and peaceful mind, while I welcome what is to come.

Mindful of change

This artwork centres around my creative progress and moving forward through relationship changes. Holding onto positive remnants of love and uplifting experiences, while moving on with life and using my creative work to do this. 
My photographic art supports me in a way that nothing else does, providing an emotional outlet and mode of expression. An avenue for the negative to be released which results in a more balanced mind. Expressing myself through creative photography, allows me to create beauty from darkness and struggle. Something that I otherwise wouldn't be able to deal with as progressively and use as a learning tool for future experiences.


With you on my mind

Vibrations of light echo through the night, flowing in forward motion, urging me to persevere. 
I find comfort in the darkness, as it cannot exist without the light.

Like a waking dream slipping away the more you try to grip it, so do my memories fade. Trying to keep close, those memories and experiences that are now escaping me. Remembering who I was ten years ago, how taking a self-portrait felt easier back then.. 

I can feel changes happening in my mind and I try to hold onto those memories, but inevitably they will fade, just like the words that are harder to come by.

This silhouetted photograph of my dear friend and fellow artist Naomi Lawler - composited with a Wisteria flower - represents our expression of mutual support for each other as female artists. 
Encouraging and building each other up has become an invaluable constant, recognising that as women we grow in our support of each other, rather than becoming our competition. 
Self doubt, imposter syndrome and the over-time workings of our female brains, can be a barrier when trying to succeed in the art world, but as long as we continue to encourage each other and foster growth, we rise together and ultimately succeed.


Feminine Growth

This long exposure, light painting photograph is a celebration of breaking free from a mundane block in my life. 
I danced, twirled and tripped in the dark, laughing while the puppy jumped at my feet and my tripod. I felt an elation after not creating for so long. 

Whilst simple in it's design, this captured moment marks my break from the thin veil, that was holding back my creativity.

Imposter syndrome.. I doubt my abilities, I feel like a fraud, I'm not deserving. Within the creation of each artwork, there is an attack on my self confidence - my self doubt trying to holding me back. 
Learning that this is part of my creative process and continuing to create through these negative feelings, pushing onward, is the only way I can get to where I need to be with my art. To prove to myself that I am worthy, and I can accomplish great and beautiful things as an artist and a human.

The ORSPN is an Australian network, established with the support of Wesley Lifeforce, to bring together community members and service providers, with a common goal of reducing the impact of suicide in the local community. 
I volunteer with ORSPN in my town, Orange NSW. Having experienced mental health struggles myself, means this cause is close to my heart.

Everyone deals with loss in their own way. I create.

I create to cope with the ever-changing conditions I face, and to process the reality that one day I may not be able to produce art in the way I can now. 

This artwork represents the loss I face, as a result of my genetic condition. The vast unknown surrounding my eye health, threatens the future of my creative work. So far, there are no answers to the question of a cure for Mitochondrial Disease and the associated concerns. My only answer is to accept this unknown and push through it. I must see the beauty in art now, draw inspiration from my trials, and create in spite of what might someday come.

Dealing with loss

Dreamscapes is a collection of photographically created, surreal scenes which represent a variety of issues I’ve encountered over years of self-growth. This collection spans over 7 years and narrates milestones and life experiences.

To create Dreamscapes, I photograph landscapes using natural light, self-portraits in my studio, and use various light painting techniques. When I bring these elements together through compositing, I create emotive, dream-like scenes.

The artworks represent personal themes of mental and chronic health struggles, loss, and fear. Through my art, I am able to draw inner strength to endure hardships.

My hope is that others will empathise with such issues and start conversations with their friends and loved ones, about topics that may not otherwise be discussed.
