This is an image from my scanography art project, MUTED. Each image in the project takes dozens of hours to create and edit, and the original high-resolution files are several gigabytes and hundreds of millions of pixels in size. MUTED employs a minimalist approach to explore themes of isolation, mortality and perception, while shifting our attention inwards to the self. It references my own colour vision deficiency and plays on differing perceptions between myself and others.

One Percenter is an homage to all the self-made people who are not held to the same sets of rules and laws as the rest.

Holders of this token also have the opportunity for becoming self-made "One Percenters". When 100 ETH in trading volume of tokens in this token's contract is achieved, 1% of the volume (1 ETH) will be sent to one randomized holder of One Percenter. 

For a wallet to be considered eligible, it must contain at least 1 other token from this same contract and have always honored royalties for the artist, regardless of contract. Trades of the artists work that do not honor artist royalties will disqualify the seller's wallet, and will not be counted towards the 100 ETH trade volume. 

Every pair of tokens (One Percenter + 1 other token from this same contract) contained in a wallet increases it's odds linearly to win the 1% raffle. This is a reflection of how One Percenters often use their position in society in order to gain an advantage over others.

In mid-September of 2021, there was a major construction project in the city underway to replace the sidewalks and roadway. It was causing a lot of disruption in the neighborhood for residents and commuters. 

One morning, I decided to load my 35mm camera with film and go for a walk to the café. Along the way I witnessed myself and others becoming frustrated by the disruption. As I stood watching the workers for a few moments, I noticed that gas line markings were spray-painted onto the ground. 

It suddenly dawned on me. Why am I allowing myself to be upset by things outside of my control? If I always search for negative things in life, I will surely find them. However, the positive sides are there to be discovered by me each day as well. Only I can control whether or not I am in good spirits. If I try to search for and focus on the good each day - then maybe I can truly be happy.

This is a web-suitable resolution image from my scanography art project, [MUTED](https://www.aaronferguson.ca/muted). Each image in the project takes 20 or more hours to create and edit, and the original high-resolution files are several gigabytes and hundreds of millions of pixels in size. This is so that I am able to create very large [prints](https://www.aaronferguson.ca/shop) of the work. 

These are some of the first scanography images that exist as art prints in the physical world to have their web-safe versions ever be minted into NFTs, and it is my hope that these become collectable over time and help to support my artistic practice.

Pincushion (2020)

MUTED employs a minimalist approach to explore themes of isolation, mortality and perception, while shifting our attention inwards to the self. The project attempts to shut out external forces, providing a moment to internalize and recharge. It references my own colorblindness and plays on differing perceptions between myself and others. As colorblindness is unique to the individual, others will never see the world the same way that I do. This acts as an interesting metaphor for how polarized we have become, and how resistant we are to attempt to understand and see things from the perspective of another person.

While in self-isolation during the COVID-19 pandemic, I became overwhelmed by world events, conflicting sources of information, and polarization of people due to both. I withdrew into the safety of my apartment, choosing to look inward rather than focus on the overwhelming amount of media vying for my attention. I used dried botanicals as a self-portrait, suspended in time and sourced from meaningful personal references. Although the work references the memento mori vanitas paintings of the 17th century, I instead focus on a single plant - the idea of the self. The images emit a sense of aesthetic loneliness I felt throughout this ordeal, and allude to the near-constant confrontation of my own health, mortality, and fears that like me, the world is withering and changing for the worse.

AI-generated art is often criticized as being unoriginal - merely copying the work of uncredited artists, and marking the end of artists being able to make a living from their art. We hear these same complaints and fears any time a new technology arrives for artists to use.

Copycat intends to take the concept of copying one step further - it will break a standard principle of web 3.0 and be copyminted across several blockchains. This will be an experiment to see if certain chains outlive the others, and to see if copying results in increased value to the original.

Holders of this edition token on Ethereum will be able to give input on which chain the next edition of 41 should be copyminted to, but the ultimate decision will rest with the artist.

Holders of this edition token on Ethereum will be able to claim a corresponding copyminted edition on every blockchain it is copyminted to, regardless if they held or sold other copymints.

Copyminted tokens that are unclaimed by holders will listed for sale by the artist at their discretion.

There is no set number of blockchains for this experiment to be run on. Input on copymintings will be welcomed from holders, but final decisions regarding minting and lifetime of the project will ultimately rest with the artist.
