One Point Five Degrees Celcius features 128 quotes from the infamous IPCC Report on the consequences of Global Warming of 1.5°C. 

The science on the climate crisis is very clear and succinct. We need to act or all of our lives will be forever changed for the worse. Yet politicians, companies and other entities in power continue to mislead, lie and downplay the crisis. 

To symbolize these issues, each edition features one quote, surrounded by unique chaotic shapes, colors and glitchy effects, all attempting to distract from the clear scientific conclusions.

This project scales to fit your screen, so I recommend trying it out on different devices and in different modes.

One Point Five Degrees Celcius #4

The world is always and has always been in constant transition. Transitions have created and destroyed everything. Understanding and living with transitions is fundamental to being in the universe.

Transition is not one-dimensional. It is not just a move from A to B, but rather a constant shifting between A to F to % to 9 to AA to €. It is multi-faceted and multi-dimensional. This implies that binaries are merely imagined.

With this piece, I explore the idea of transitions being multidimensional by using shapes which progressively increase in edge count in all manner of ways. 

You’ll witness transitions that happen slowly, quickly, in fits and starts, and chaotically.

You’ll find transitions placed in circles, grids, towers, spirals, and more.

You’ll see transitions in multiple color schemes including inverted versions of each scheme.

According to Women Can't Paint, a book by Helen Gorrill, paintings made by men sell for 10x as much as women's paintings. 

This piece is one of two conceptual generative artworks. One is called "Men in art", the other "Women in art". They are identical except for two differences:
1. The dithering filter in "Men in art" favors blue colors over red ones, while "Women in art" do the opposite. 
2. The price of "Men in art" is 10 tez, while "Women in art" is priced at 1 tez.

“Klyft” is part of the fxhash interactive minting experience at PARIS+ par Art Basel.

Klyft is a juxtaposition of two different projections for the future. One, made by the World Economic Forum, suggests that the global gender gap will have closed by the year 2154. The other, by the UN IPCC, estimates that global warming will reach 3.2 degrees celcius by the year 2100.

Klyft makes use of the unique temporal aspect of computational art by developing its expression gradually over the next 132 years. As we come closer to 2154, the space between the two shapes in Klyft will grow smaller to symbolize the closing of the gender gap. As time goes on, however, Klyft also becomes more and more glitched out to represent the projected increases in greenhouse gases and climate catastrophes.

In the end, Klyft’s expression will be heavily corrupted, and the two shapes will have reached each other.

You can add the following parameters to the URL to change the behavior of the piece.

date=<YYYY-MM-DD> — See how Klyft looks on another day. Use the format YYYY-MM-DD. 

color=<number> — See the piece in another color scheme. The numbers loop around, so 17 equals 0, 18 equals 1, etc. 

resolution=<number> — View the piece in a higher resolution. 1 is normal resolution, 2 is double, etc. No decimals allowed.

image=true — Save the piece as an image. 

record=true — Save the piece as a video in WEBM format.

Pressing the following keys will trigger functionality as well as add related URL parameters automatically. 

Pressing D will increment the date by 1 year.

Pressing C will increment the color index by 1.

Pressing R will toggle between normal and double resolution.

Pressing I will toggle the image URL parameter, which saves the piece as an image. Only works outside of iframe.

Pressing V will toggle the video URL parameter, which saves the piece as a video. Only works outside of iframe.

There are secret key presses as well. Some of them only work outside of iframe.

Representation is an artwork/data visualization about the gender split in parliaments across the world. 

Each minted artwork gets assigned 6 countries from different regions. 1 country from the Pacific, 1 from Europe, 1 from Asia, 1 from the Americas, 1 from Sub-saharan Africa and 1 from the Middle East and North Africa.

Each circle in your artwork represents the gender split of the parliament(s) in one of those countries by using colors. The legend in the bottom right can be used to decipher which color means what.

Barriers is an artwork+data visualization about the state of LGBT+ rights across the world.

Each edition is assigned 1 out of 197 countries. Four basic LGBT+ rights are represented as circles with barriers. The largest circle signifies whether homosexual activity is legal. The second-largest signifies same-sex marriage. The third one, same-sex adoption. The smallest one is the legality of gender change. One barrier means full rights. The more barriers, the more unequal rights are afforded to LGBT+ people.

The colors of the edition signify the country’s region and subregion.

Each edition is assigned 3-7 countries as well as a group of species. Each country is represented by a circle, while the species group decides the color scheme.

The GDP (PPP) per capita of each country is shown by the size of the circle. Large circles mean a large GDP, and vice versa.

The amount of threatened species is shown by the density of the circle. A very dense circle means few threatened species, and vice versa.

This sketch represents when I was still working with outlines repeating on the Z-axis. It turned out to be difficult to align with a more colorful aesthetic, which resulted in me moving in a different direction.
