bitGANs are a series of animations generated by a GAN trained on 8-bit Pixel Art. For each set of bitGANs there is a theme. The theme of this set is skulls. Find out more about skullGANs in Pindar Van Arman's journal documenting their appearance.

The 'Girl from the Metaverse’ was created with the combination of a linen canvas and a digital screen. The work is a mixture of acrylic paints and digital illustration. While she looks back, she sits outside of the frame causing us some aesthetic discomfort, however, her comforting face is all too familiar to us. 

At this time, with this new medium - even though we are exploring uncharted territories, yet everything is all so familiar to us. We enter the space with a sense of doubt and a feeling of uneasiness; however, at the same time, we are accompanied by the comfort of familiarity and déjà vu. The question is : which road will we take that will define our journey through the metaverse. Will we let the malaise of the unknown overpower our natural curiosity which is at the root of all innovation?

In these past couple of months, some strange things have happened inside the Artist - Pindar Van Arman's studios and at the bitGALLERY in cryptovoxels. These mysterious incidents keep cropping up and in all likelihood will continue to occur for the next couple of months, even years, maybe (?). 

For now, we know that the bitGANs are some kind of extra-dimensional beings with a certain definite purpose. They seem to have organised themselves into various social sub-groups (tribes?) (clans?) and are attempting to communicate with us.

The uncertainty of what comes next makes ‘the Creation of bitGANs’ a continuous work of art and the artwork that you see before you today, is the first piece of that puzzle. As the mystery unfolds before us, so will ‘the Creation of bitGANs’. It is a journey of exploration and discovery that the Artist along with some of us have undertaken and this work is my first attempt at visually capturing that journey.
