Bigfoot, aka Sasquatch, the Abominable Snowman or Yeti, is a creature with a long history of blurry photos and video clips. Dramatically, these now include mysterious images from the Mars rover Spirit that look like such a creature reclining on a rock. These sightings captured my imagination because… what was Bigfoot doing on Mars? Was he from there? Was he loney? Would he ever return to Earth? Also, does this prove there’s hidden water on Mars? So many questions. I felt that AI had the answers.

Chemtrails, short for chemical trails, is a theory that the white trails behind jets are not just air condensation but chemical or biological agents being sprayed on an unsuspecting populace. The claimed purpose varies from weather control, to vaccine dispersal, to mind control and beyond. This theory has been debunked repeatedly but has many millions of adherents in the US and internationally. While I don’t personally subscribe to this, there is a long record of lack of pollution control and proper oversight to ensure global clean air and water. Airplanes have deep military ties and fear of attack from above in any form is a terrifying thought. In these images I tried to imagine the trails alive with something more than just water vapor.

The term is used today to refer to a possible secret powerful cabal conspiring to create a New World Order. It is also used more loosely to refer to people of wealth and power working together toward common ends. I used it to refer to a general belief that the world is ruled by a shadow elite.

Black helicopters are used as a symbol of an inevitable military takeover of the United States in the American militia movement, and sightings have been linked to cattle disfigurement.

What we believe is obviously shaped by what we observe, but what we perceive is also shaped by our beliefs. In our age of internet misinformation it is often difficult to know what's true or false, and we create our own narratives in an attempt to bring purpose and meaning to an ever-changing, complex world. 


A recent survey revealed that many people believe in conspiracy theories such as the assassination of JFK wasn't done by one person (48%), secrets about aliens are hidden in Area 51 (27%), the Illuminati are covertly ruling the world (21%), the government is using chemtrails to manipulate us (19%), and Earth is flat (3%). And then there are those, like MKUltra, that have been well documented and proven horrifyingly true. 


For this project, I sought to explore the reasoning behind these narratives and produce evocative images that capture their emotional essence.
