A Denver Walk

Winter In Suburbia is a photographic collection focused on suburban/rural scenes overtaken by winter conditions. Soft blankets of snow, roads in rough driving condition... these images capture the aftermath of the harsh weather many American suburban communities experience. With low contrast, cool-toned processing and wider compositions that exaggerate empty space, these images bring viewers into the scenes, viewers are forced to experience the silence that spans across these winter-scapes.

Sleeping Suburbia consists of photographs taken in suburban and rural scenes in the dead of the night. The silence of a closed business, the ominous glow of a bright interior, the webbing of directional shadows…these scenes capture and depict the bones of otherwise lively communities. I process my images with low contrast techniques, and when composing, often incorporate negative “breathing” space into the frame. Through this approach, I create a sense of displacement, pushing viewers to question the comfort typically assumed of a hometown.

Late Summer Morning

Road Poems is a series of images depicting moody one-liners spelled out on road-side signs.        

An eerie processing style, matched with the compositing of these short, emotive messages yields work with a goal of evoking a feeling within the viewer - sometimes a connection with a memory or a dream, and in other cases, to a fear. Each image explores a concept inspired by a personal experience, or a witnessed experience, in my life.

Lacking Serotonin

Being the oldest city park in the country, Boston Common has remained a gathering place events, celebrations, and protests, of course. This image was taken during the annual "Freedom Rally" held on the grounds. The group's lead is aimed at promoting a more rational public policy toward the governing of cannabis use, and additionally, at educating folks on weed's potential for positive affect in society. 

With thousands gathered, smoke fills the air, hotboxing the entire environment as one walks through. As time rolls on and the sun gets lower in the sky, the light beams through this smoke, creating incredible illumination of folks in the crowds. 

Here, a girl sits in the grass, prominently standing out from the crowd due to a sharp beam of light silhouetting her among her counterparts' shadows.

A Sunday In Boston Common

This photograph really encompasses every element I seek to pull together when shooting street photography - vibrant colors, people engaged, a little hint of urban wildlife - all set in a cityscape. 

When asked about what I look for in the city, I candidly admit I care less about creating a "story" or "capturing moments" - for me, I really focus on looking for things that make me ~feel~ . If a scene is warm or inviting, I will likely raise my camera to it. I also appreciate the sense of anonymity the city provides and with this. I try to focus less on individual people and more on groups and how those groups use up the spaces our society has built. 

I wanted to mint this as my first NFT because of its personal importance to me. I have been trying to create photos that align with the styles of post-impressionist painters and this was the first of my work I think I actually did so successfully. With this photo, I found my style as a photographer.

thinking about you

Road Poems

In June of 2022, I took a roadtrip through the West, touching areas as South as Salt Lake and as North as the Tetons. Our crew went camping in an area outside of the Tetons, and I explored the grounds late one night. I came across this cabin popping out of a pitch black scene in the middle of the woods. 

The building's shape is ambiguous enough to make it hard to decipher what it's actually used for. This, coupled with the brush and tree cover partially obstructing the viewers perspective, create a need to explore the scene further. Is it a cabin? A home? Is it just a bathhouse?

In The Woods

“Chicago in Motion” is a stop-motion piece I made during a short visit to the windy city in November of 2021. The gif portrays an L line train as it makes its way across the famous “S curve.”

The majority of my images are “impressions” of spaces - they are essentially just visual representations of what one may feel when witnessing time passing in these places. My goal is usually a single static image of each scene, but in this case, I felt as though motion was needed to truly represent all the changes I was seeing. 

This boomerang captures the change in lighting due to moving clouds, a train coming around the bend, and the motion of traffic on the street below. I don’t think the still image I made here could have showcased all of these changes.

This image is the first of many that will contribute to a larger project: a series of moving images that document the paths of movement that objects take in city scenes.

"Road Trips Out West" is a project that concludes my 2023 exploration of the Western region of the United States - a conclusion consisting of stops in  the states of Colorado, Utah, California, Oregon, Washington, and Montana.  

Collectors commissioned the project through the purchase of "Road Passes," which were made available in the early weeks of the summer. 

The project is meant not to be a perfect representation of the West, rather, the impression of the area through the eyes of a person with little to no exposure to it in the past.
