Future Bright - Dave Krugman

This latest work is the third installation in the Ecumepolis series, a collaboration between @xsullo, @olliechanin, and @dave_krugman. By combining time lapse photography, CGI world building, and a custom musical score, we unveil a world rich with details- an imagining of a city from the not-so-distant future. 

This work extends the universe we began building in February 2021, Ecumonopolis Sector 1: NYC, and Ecumonoplis, Sector 2: Venice Italy

The craft of photography is a precious thing, it’s the only way we get to stand outside the march of time, to pull slides from the rushing river that flows around and through us. We seek and study the intricate, overlapping entropy of the universe, the serendipitous collisions at the confluences of circumstance. Our task is to hold these moments of beauty in golden amber.

Everything is composed of these variables we dance with- light, time, space, and energy- and New York City is the center of this swirling chaos. 

This island lives and breathes like us, and exhales steam that cloaks, the beams that cut through darkness gleam past Specters wrapped in smoke.

Life is a beautiful, broken thing; and golden light shines through its cracks, a fractal web of serendipity with roots deep in our past. DRIVE is an NFT Photography Collection from Dave Krugman, featuring 111 1/1 vehicles, aggregated over the course of ten years of street photography. But this project is more than just a collection- it is an ecosystem of access, a dynamic community game, and an entry ticket to a wide range of future endeavors.

Minted on a @manifoldxyz contract, DRIVE is broken down into the following categories.

There are 20 Trophies, representing the most rarefied visuals. Aliens, classic restorations, and strange designs abound. To win a Trophy, you must own a car, and enter it into a race event.

There will be various race events and mechanics, gamified via social media. 

There are 8 Grails up for a 24 HR Auction. 

Tier 1- 25 cars at .5 ETH
Tier 2- 33 cars at .33 ETH
Tier 3- 25 cars at .25 ETH

There are a lot of visual rarities spread throughout ALL Tiers of the collections. Some cars have qualities that are entirely unique. I won’t spoil those secrets, it is up to the community to determine.

 ‘Drip Drop’ is a cohesive collection of 1111 1/1 photography NFTs by New York based photographer Dave Krugman. This collection is an ode to generative art from projects like Art Blocks, inspired by works such as Chromie Squiggles, Fidenzas, and Ringers. ‘Drip Drop’ is a study of the generative beauty of the universe, as viewed through the lens of rain hitting puddles in Times Square. Color spectrums emerge from bright billboards, and wash over textured water, highlighting the beauty at the intersection of nature and civilization. At the overlap of these worlds, gorgeous patterns emerge. Each Drip is a slide to be studied- a cross section of entropy and energy. 

‘Drip Drop’ is a collaboration between Dave Krugman and Transient Labs. The team built a custom machine vision algorithm that sorts and batches Drips based on their emergent rarities.

On a dark night in New York, as the days were getting shorter, clouds condensed a half-mile above the city. As they gathered, this new density sent a light rain tumbling down to meet the asphalt, which stretched from the East River to the Hudson. The rain made the streets slick, allowing lights born from artifice to stretch their length, and deepen their color. Few people noticed. Some were lost in their phones, others had eyes forward, seeking a faster cut through the crowd of commuters. Those in cars inched them slowly towards the crosswalk, eager to move south through the city, block by block, in the short yet steady increments dictated by city planners some decades ago. All of these details weave together here, intwined to set a scene, never the same, but predictable enough to observe, repeat, observe, repeat. Footfalls cut the light with sharp shadows, and make a pattern that moves like the flicker of a flame. There is such a strange beauty to this symphony of sights, when the light leaks into darkness, and the darkness into light.

Concrete canyons fill with phosphorescent light, a stage for the players that fill this cold city with warm life. Rain falls in thick sheets, sweeping colors down the drains in swirling eddies. Serendipity spins around us, in the beautiful overlaps of a life well lived.

Let’s see what develops. 

ROLLS is a new long term project from Dave Krugman, inspired by the interesting overlaps of blockchain and photographic film technologies. Both of these systems can be seen as decentralized, immutable time chains- whose value is determined by distributed consensus mechanisms. ROLLS seeks to highlight and amplify these commonalities, while also exploring the nature of trust between artist and collector. 

ROLLS begins with 10 tokens to be auctioned off in sequence on SuperRare. Each token is a placeholder that corresponds to one frame on a roll of film. Once all tokens are sold, Dave will go out with his Mamiya 7ii medium format film camera and shoot this one roll of film. Once the ROLL is completed, token metadata will “develop” and will be updated with the final art- high resolution film scans.

ROLLS

There are certain moments when everything aligns. So many cycles, as we spin through this life, both personal and cosmic- and when things fall perfectly into place, a pause for reflection is possible. One of these moments that I felt such a feeling so profoundly is when I witnessed this primal event, standing in the path of totality of a solar eclipse. It was an instant that changed my life forever.

I made this image during the total solar eclipse of 2017, in Nashville, TN. It was a time of deep and lasting change in my life, and something about standing in the muted glow of the sun cast in shadow rendered me calm and quiet. I felt a sense of death and rebirth, of an emergence from the past and into the future. To this day, it is the most present I've felt in a single instant. 

I hope this photograph can evoke that same sensation in those who see it.
