Can You See Us Now? #57/100

While travelling sunrise is my favourite hunting time. Sun is rising and is very strong, making it challenging and exciting at the same time to create something unique. 
This image was shot in Pushkar, Rajasthan, India during the Annual Camel Fair. Creating this image had its own challenges because to get the light streaks through the legs of running camels, I had to lie flat on my belly on sand mixed with thorns of desert bushes. Fast running camels added to the pain. 
Timing is key in such shots and I had to try several shots because of many variable factors. Finally I could nail it on 4th day after several failed attempts.

Light Blast

Silver Lining is a special image that shows how one can see a glimpse of light even through dense clouds. Silver Lining is about hope. It gives strength to hold on, despite all odds.  
This image was of “Chaar Chinar”, located in the Dal Lake, Srinagar. The name literally means “Four Maple Trees”. It got its name from the total number of Maple Trees on the small island. The trees started rotting and dying because of the impact of floods and public apathy. Something which once was an iconic landmark was dying a slow death. When it came to its last stage, with two trees totally damaged and the remaining two looking like rudiments, the nature conservation authorities decided to replant one full grown tree as an experiment and that experiment seems to have been successful.  
The Govt now plans to re-plant 3 more trees to restore the place to its full glory. 
This is a fine art image, that I did processing to signify my thoughts about this place. Dark all around with divine glow - that SILVER LINING in the center.

SILVER LINING #5

I love shooting silhouettes. While on a tour to Sam Dunes in Jaisalmer, Rajasthan, India, I saw a herder going with his herd of 2 camels. I quickly changed my position to align them against rising Sun and the clouds in sky seem to complete the composition.

Sun Dune

Hands have their own language. some say hands depict your destiny. I have been shooting hands in different acts over the years. Here is a close up of hand of a Budhist monk busy praying using his praying mala beads. Personally I find it very fascinating to create images which show just hands without face of an individual. They alone show so many emotions or current state of mind of an individual.

Praying Hands

The most celebrated Holi is in the Braj region – locations connected to Lord Krishna: Barsana, Nandagaon and Vrindavan. Holi at Barsana, the birthplace of Radha, a village, 42 kms away from Vrindavan, is of particular interest. Here, men from Nandgaon, the land of Krishna come to play Holi with the girls of Barsana and hope of raising their flag over Shri Radhikaji’s temple. But, instead of colours they are greeted with sticks by the gopis. Hence, this Holi gets its name – Lathmaar Holi. Smart enough, men come fully padded as they are fully aware what kind of welcome awaits them and also the fact that they are not allowed to retaliate on that day. In this mock battle of sorts, they try their best not to be captured. The unlucky one’s however, are forcefully led away and get a good thrashing from the women. All in the spirit of Holi.

The next day, it is the turn of the men from Barsana. They reciprocate by invading Nandgaon and drench the womenfolk of Nandgaon in colours of kesudo, naturally occurring orange-red dye and palash. Today, the women of Nadagon beat the invaders from Barsana. The week long Holi celebrations also continue in the various Krishna temples on different days. The celebrations are filled with clouds of colours and of course, much fun.

Its almost an impossible task to enter the the mayhem, compose and come out with an image and that too with you and your camera still intact. I love the challenge of taking intimate moments of this festival. This is one special moment when all men folk sing religious songs while getting drenched in colors. They are totally immersed in devotion.

Village Belle

Kaaarwan is a Persian word which means a "Group of Desert Travellers" 

This image was taken in Pushkar, Rajasthan, India during the annual Camel Fair. Every morning a camel herder would march towards the fair ground with his herd of camels. The spot I selected to shoot was risky because I was literally standing on the edge of open septic tank and camels would run at extreme speed on a muddy path located slightly above my head. Their speed made it difficult for me to create composition because the shooting window was just 2-3 minutes beyond which the sun will rise above the camels.
I could capture this on my 3rd attempt (3rd day early morning)

Holi - Festival of Colors is celebrated in entire India particularly North India. Celebrations are quite intense at Brij Holi which is celebrated in the land of Lord Krishna. In this collection I share some best moments from there.

Childhood symbolizes innocence and freedom. Can we ever imagine a childhood which is trapped and restricted owing to financial or religious conditions?
This image was taken in Turtuk which is the last village in India. It was a part of Pakistan till 1971 after which India took control here. A beautiful girl was peeping out of her window being inquisitive on what's happening outside. The scratched glass, wooden frame, gave an impression of being trapped in a claustrophobic place.

Tsering - The Aryan Girl

Aryans are residents of Dah and Hanu Villagein Ladakh, India. They are called Brokpas and are believed to be a part of the army of Alexander the Great and came to the region some 2000 years ago. They are proud to call themselves as last of the pure Aryan race and have European features which are very different from Ladakhis. 

Brokpas community is racially and culturally different from the common Ladakhis. the community has unique sense of dressing. They wear flowers on their hats. They also practice polyandry.

Isolated from modern world for ages, they mainly thrive on horticulture.

Light is everything in photography. this is one of the most common phrases we have heard in our photography journey. Yes its true, you can't create an image without light, but it is the shadows which add mood and character to an image. Same hold true with landscape photography as well. It is the interplay of light and shadows which makes a compelling landscape image. 

This is a compressed landscape shot at 400mm taken in Ladakh. Loved the interplay of light and shadows on barren mountain ranges of high altitude Ladakh.

Peacock is one the most beautiful birds. Millions of photographers have clicked this bird zillion of times. In my foray as a wildlife photographer, I was looking at something different yes beautiful. 

In one of the safaris, when I saw this peacock basking in early morning Sun, I had to stop the vehicle and wait against wishes of fellow photographers because they wanted to see a Tiger. Luckily I didn't have to wait for long, Soon, i turned its back towards us and looked back while half spreading the feathers, as if trying to check our reaction while he was flaunting.
