Like children, that are capable of artistic creation from an early age and have an unrivaled imagination, what would happen if a computer finds a case with colored pencils, pens, markers, crayons and charcoals? The artist Alejandro, aka (rat)chitect, asks exactly this question as his basic idea behind 'Enfantines I. Small Talk'. And would then, equipped with a set of dedicated algorithms, start drawing to the rhythm of musical compositions. So that the resulting artworks could be perceived as visual scores of the accompanying music? To stick with the metaphor, art director and Deca gallery mastermind Kos composed a coherent grid-based layout, which does justice to the project in every aspect and arranges beautiful artworks from Enfantines in an appealing and playful way. We can feel the rhythm and the designer’s sensitivity in the overall composition. The gallery takes the time to detail the various outputs and color palettes, enriched with the artist's conceptual approaches and his thoughts from the development process, which read like entries in a diary. As an homage to French composer Erik Satie, who wrote Enfantines as beginner piano pieces to prepare children for the sound patterns of modern music, Alejandro created his same-titled project to explore the basics of generative art and prepare artists, including himself, for the script patterns of digital art. Now, there is nothing I would rather do than put on some music and watch the algorithm conjure up a mesmerizing Enfantines’ artwork.
