Render Cut-ups A (RGB)
Render Cut-ups B (mono)
Render Cut-Ups is a short-form series of 48 1/1 based on a selection of high-resolution 3D rendered images created with Blender, a tool that is still new to my practice.
The cut-ups reflect what I find interesting with 3D rendering:
The ability to imagine synthetic scenes and explore them with a photographic approach, experimenting with textures and lighting effects beyond what is possible in realtime 3D.
"Cut-ups" is a nod to Burrough's notion of cut-ups,
a type of automatic writing where the author lets go of controlling the text directly.
My cut-ups aren't automatic (i.e. random) or re-assembled, but it is a technique to let go of the desire to produce a "perfect" image.
