This series of artworks portrays a Siren in five distinct colour variations, each capturing a unique aspect of this mythical being. According to legend, a siren is a creature known for its enchanting voice, capable of luring sailors to their doom. The Siren symbolizes both temptation and peril. But perhaps in a more modern context it can also be seen as a symbol of female agency and power. Each colour version reflects a different dimension of her character, showcasing the complexity and strength inherent in her myth.

Softness, fragility, vulnerability.

Abstract Tenderness

This artwork began as a photograph of someone.

Cut up and rearranged digitally, it took on another life. Another identity.

Then, through the play of various file types it went through more degradation. The capricious glitch had no mercy.

Lastly, it was edited in Photoshop, to bring out the colour, and the form, and the unrecognizable features that remain only as textures. Mere traces of what the portrait used to be.

I battle to hold onto everything I’m owed.  
Though I’m told, repeatedly, I don’t deserve it at all.

All the things I deserve, are also holding me together.  
If I let them go, I’ll fall apart forever.

I deserve the Stars, the Sun, and the Moon.  
I deserve to see flowers blooming in June.

I deserve the safety of knowing my body is my own.  
I deserve to see these shattered wings fully grown.
