"Nature" is a mini video series (a triptych). Its title reflects the concept of the project, based on the play of meanings we attach to the word “nature.” On one hand, it refers to the world of beautiful natural landscapes - ecosystems, their harmony, the richness of life, and the extraordinary interconnections between species. On the other hand, the title draws attention to human nature: our ignorance, excessive consumption, lack of responsibility, and short-sighted decisions that have real consequences both for the natural world and for ourselves.
Each video shows a possible environment, transformed and destroyed as a result of our actions. The series has a cautionary, thought-provoking character, it shows how destructive human nature can be toward nature itself. Each part of the triptych depicts a different environment: aquatic (Nature I) and terrestrial (Nature II and Nature III), including desert/savanna and forest ecosystems. The shown devastation aims to highlight the consequences of our decisions and to remind us that our actions have a real impact on the world around us and on ourselves.
While creating this series, I delved deeper into reflections on human nature and our choices. The consequences of human ignorance presented in my triptych are neither imaginary nor distant from our reality. On the contrary, they are present at every step of our daily lives, in our everyday decisions, in the way we use resources, and in our relationships with other people and our environment.
The polluted and disrupted ecosystems presented in the triptych aim to raise awareness, not only about how irresponsibility, laziness, and ignorance affect the natural world, but also about how they reflect back on our own species – humanity. It is a reminder that our fate is inseparably linked to the fate of the planet we inhabit.
But this series is not only about the environment. Disrespect, lies, selfishness, and our interpersonal relationships are also part of this triptych. The way we treat others, I mean family, strangers, or the places we occupy, is no different from how humans treat natural ecosystems. Our behavior toward other beings, just like toward the natural world, shapes reality and its future.
We call ourselves Homo sapiens – rational beings – yet we still fail to fully respect other humans, consider the needs of other living creatures, or ensure their safety in their environment. At least, for now…
Laziness, selfishness, lack of reflection, and ignorance of consequences, whether regarding the environment or human relationships, ultimately lead to destruction, chaos, and the ruin of the only home we have. Ignoring these threats costs our planet and ourselves.
The idea for this triptych came to my mind some time ago. The total length of all videos is 376 seconds, 251 videos were generated, 26 attempts were made to generate music according to my concept, and the realization of the idea took 7 days.
All my longer and shorter video artworks are usually accompanied by music, in 99% of cases I also compose music for them, using AI in the process, this series is not an exclusion. This creation process usually involves several generations, followed by editing the versions that come closest to my vision. I always start with an idea, then work on the music, and the moment I have the perfect track, one that fits my vision exactly, I see the whole video in my mind and know which moments to show and how.
I think that music is an irreplaceable element, capable of touching the deepest strings of the heart; both mine as an artist and the viewer’s. That is why I consider it one of the key elements of storytelling. Every video, long or short, that stays in our minds and hearts has a musical foundation. It is through music that we are able to feel the imagery even more deeply.
The first part of the triptych, "Nature I. Aquatic Environments" was inspired by the desire to reveal the underwater world and its extraordinary beauty, a beauty threatened by the human traits mentioned earlier. The music was created using AI, and its fluid, dynamic rhythm, with the intensity and edge of a tango, conveys the strength and beauty of the underwater world, the movement of the water, and the energy of the octopuses, while also highlighting the threats posed by human nature.
The second part, “Nature II. Desert/Savanna Environments” as I mentioned, I thought would be the most challenging for me to depict, due to the dynamism and wildness I had envisioned in my mind even before creating the music and video. It shows the desert and savanna world, destroyed by humans, where species, like in the other parts, suffer the consequences of human actions. The music is inspired by beautiful Eastern motifs, the wild beauty and raw dynamism of the savanna and desert environments.
The third part, “Nature III. Forest Environments” is the longest and different, it is a cry, a call for help through image and music. It shows a world closest to me – the forest – and the consequences of human actions, which I see with my own eyes. Species are dying because of human interference - feeding, polluting, trying to “help” animals, which in the end cannot survive in their natural environment. Some adapt to the city, and then people complain that they disturb their territory, and they are killed.
Throughout my entire series, I reflect on this aspect of human nature – the lack of understanding of the consequences of our actions. And this third part was personally the most challenging for me, because I witness this aspect of our human nature in its full extent around me every day, and there is a sense of tragedy in it.
The music was created based on my vision of a call for help. While creating this third part and its music, Vivaldi’s violins were constantly playing in my soul. It was through his music that, a few years ago, I truly discovered the full beauty and power of the violin. I chose the violin as the key instrument here because, in my opinion, it can speak directly to our soul and subconscious through its sound, reaching the deepest, most intimate corners of our inner world.
