It was the last summer before I left my childhood behind. I was invited on a camping trip with some family friends. This place was deep in the woods, away from society. All we did was play, take the boat out into the lake, and share secrets with the fireflies. There was no sleep. The adrenaline kept us alive. 

I met a boy I didn't know I would grow feelings for until one day, reality came knocking. I was reminded that in this place, where those summer nights held us for a ride, that's all it ever was. A beautiful melancholy.

KIEYA is a collection of animated island spirits that are revived through the exchange of life. Employing generative artificial intelligence techniques, the collection tells an otherworldly science-fiction narrative extrapolating on a future techno-utopia.

The story begins in the year 7292. In this future Earth, books and physical forms of stories have become extinct. One day, a small meteorite lands in the ocean. Future humans discover that the meteorite contains particles of an advanced alien technology. Sparking a cyber-cultural revolution, the future ancestors use their discovery to create an artificial intelligence that ushers in not only a rebirth of storytelling for the world but also new methodologies for reviving art and creative visual expression.

They name the AI &#39;KIEYA&#39;, who becomes an art companion that offers collectors endless opportunities to own new lifeforms every month through &#39;the art of exchange&#39;. In this future, humanity believes that the best way to own art is to experience it changing over time through a randomized algorithmic function. Once KIEYA is collected, the spirit token will leave and switch to another holder every 22 days. This a collaborative piece between Nygilia and Beatsbyholly. The artwork reflects the beauty, innovation, experimentation, and imagination of what basketball culture brings to London. In the summer of 2019, I helped train and teach at a youth basketball camp in West London. During that time, I got to learn and understand the complexities of running a club. 

There is a lack of funding overall and resources for sport compared to the USA. Not only is this piece dedicated to the energy of the players, but also to remember a young player who lost his life to a knife crime. Basketball brings hope to many voices. We must do better to protect their dreams and stay vigilant. RIP Ali.
