"I've been seeing a few of the blur-less phases and the divisions between colors are so clean! This one is obviously fantastic - the radial edges being warped by the vertical columns - awesome, the wide bands within the radial - awesome. It also does a really cool thing just after the initial splash, the interior radial starts running inverse to the outer radial - awesome"
phase is an Art Blocks Curated project from Series 4 created by Loren Bednar. Every time a phase sale happens, Loren goes out of his way to provide commentary in the AB Discord about what he likes about the piece and/or backstory for certain traits. I've compiled the 300+ instances of Loren doing this, and below is a curated set of these phase commentaries that help provide more insight directly from the artist in a way that you can't do for most other projects.

phase #219
"This one is like a secret Calamitous 🤫 The royalty palette can do some really wild blends and color transforms depending on the motion and this is a really good example of that. Traditionally, colors can be clean or blended and if those blends happen fast enough, they really become something different. The lighter layers give a bit of iridescence to the darker ones which also adds to that effect"

An interesting side effect of some pieces being resold many times over the months is that with Loren's commentary, certain phases have their own backstory now too.
Second sale: "Quick flip 🤸 I like how the foreground radial collapse doesn’t distort the background, it really separates the two planes and gives some interesting depth to me 🙂"
First sale: "I love the positioning of this radial, its collapse is so fast and it eases into the refresh so smoothly - great cycle!"
phase #832
Third sale: "And speedy vortex phase has another new home 🙌 it's always fun to see pieces that don't behave in similar ways to each other - this one has such an obvious motion and feels local to the middle of the radial instead of affecting the whole piece"
Palette: Strive Radial Influences: 3 Radiation: Diagonals Resolution: 512 X 512 Scanlines: Checkered
"I really like the interplay between the actual radial in the bottom and the pseudo-radial in the top section. That top one is technically like a warp that starts immediately collapsing but gives off arcs like a radial - but the emission from the actual radial negates it pretty fast (you can see the colors shift into the main radial shortly into the start). Very cool phase 👍"
Palette: Optimism Radial Influences: 1 Radiation: Plus Resolution: 32 X 32 Scanlines: Checkered
phase #692
"A moody and mysterious phase 👀 I've said it before but these darker overrides were a bit unintentional and I was going to enforce a brightness minimum but I was hoping some semi-spooky ones would roll out. I wasn't disappointed"

First sale: "One of the best things about the mono palette is how rich the interference patterns are rendered when the wave sections are so close together like in this one. You can see them waving around in the right section so clearly - it's awesome"
Second sale: "Another fantastic monochrome with those rich interference patterns 🤍🖤 I wasn't sure if I was going to have a strict monochrome palette but they show off the moiré really well"
Third sale: "I love that top pattern against the others swirling around. Also some great contrasts between the divisions especially with half the phase being a giant moire pattern 🙌"

"🏊♂️ 🟦 🟦 🟦 🟦 🩸 🦈"
"One of the more intense Calamitous phases for sure. The entire palette and flow are just thrown out the window here. It's so fun to watch the collapse and restructuring that is going on, completely unexpected results and definitely one of the goals I had when I was putting the Calamitous concept together. Just awesome"

"Is this the next Fidenza?"
"Speedy one"
Second sale: "It's definitely an amazing ascii, I still can't get over that focus effect caused by the blends and blurs as the piece advances through its loop. That melting effect towards the wash is wonderful :)"
First sale: "▒ ASCII! ▒ Such an active one! The little distortions at the end cause that blur, so the middle is clearly visible because the rate of chaos is low. Pretty cool effect, it's kind of like fake depth of field based on how fast the surrounding colors are shifting around"
