This stunning stretch of sand rises from a dry, flat pan, forming a series of distinctive barchan dunes. We were crossing back through the Sahara from south to north, passing by Magdit along the remote western border between Libya and Algeria, on our way to the ancient caravan town of Ghadames. We found ourselves in the Erg Titersin, a landscape where archaeologists have uncovered stone tumuli and burial structures. As we moved deeper into this immense terrain, we felt incredibly small beside this vast mass of sand dominating the barren desert.
